First shots with my Tamron 100-400 in the field.... opinions please...
I bought this lens because I was looking for a lighter weight telephoto. I have a Tam 150-600, but it just is too heavy to hand hold anymore and I found myself missing a lot of shots because I couldn't hold it steady. Have some arthritis and a little neuropathy, and I'm beginning to show signs.
I like the flexibility of holding hand held. I have seen some good photographers using a tripod and a gimbal and they look like they are dancing a waltz with their rigs. I am just not there yet.
The tripod collar was way overpriced, but I am going to opt for comfort instead of sticker shock.
Anyway, here are my first field shots.
Hope to get some action shots tomorrow.

I like them, lighter wgt is at the top of my list. Your shots are "dime on".
Lighter is why I bought a Panasonic Lumis FZ200 light wgt 400 zoom.

Great shots - nice and crisp.

They look fine to me. Looks like you bought the right lens for yourself!

As with any telephoto....I was stretching it.
All lense have a limit....but thanks for looking.
Looks good. I use the Canon 100-400 mk 2 with 1.4x part of the time. I traded my Tamron 150-600 since the Canon combo gets me to 640 mm at f/8. So far I don't miss the little bit of extra speed.

Sorry got the lens mixed up!
I think you have your lenses mixed up. ggttc got the Tamron 100-400, you are using the 18-400. Or did you buy both of them?

Thanks for taking the time to take a look...only time will tell if this will work for me.
I have heard nothing but great things about the canon 100 400...but I am stuck with Nikon because of our investment in glass.
Your photos look good to me. I just received my Tamron 100-400 yesterday and have only had a chance for some test shots on my D7100. I did have some good shots of the super moon tonight handheld. I’ll shoot some birds tomorrow hopefully. I think the lens balances nicely with the D7100 and feels lighter than I thought it would. I did not want a heavy lens. So far I don’t see a need to make any adjustments to the lens but I did get the Tap In just in case I needed it. I passed on the collar for now. I think it is a keeper.
I think its a keeper too....going to try some action shots tomorrow if the cranes and weather cooperate....
