New to photography. Been doing a lot of research the past couple weeks for a camera to upgrade to from my 15 year old Canon Powershot. I had pretty much narrowed it down to the Nikon D5600 24MP CMOS DSLR with 18-55mm VR Lens, 70-300mm (not VR) Lens, Camera Bag, and 32GB SD Card $799.00 and a Canon EOS Rebel T6i 24.2MP Digital SLR Bundle with 18-55mm IS STM Lens, 55-250mm IS STM Lens, 32GB SD Card, and Camera Bag $749.00. Both at Sams Club. (Leaning towards the Canon because of the IS lenses)
I just came across a refurbished Canon EOS Rebel T6i EF-S 18-55mm IS STM & EF-S 55-250mm IS STM lens bundle for $509.99 with a one year warranty.
Are the refurbished cameras worth it? This seems like a very good price especially with the 1 yr warranty.
Wondering what some of you more knowledgable people think,
Thank you

Refurbished is a great option. They can be "used" in a way that is nothing more than unsold stock returned to Canon. They've been inspected and certified by Canon as equivalent to new in both cosmetic appearance and functionality. However, the equipment can no longer be sold as new.

I have bought two refurbs from the Canon Store - both just like new except for the packaging.
If you don't mind the extra $200 the T6s is bit higher end model (more manual controls etc), but the T6i is also a good camera.

If your concern is about refurbished, Canon has the same 1 year warranty on it's product, new or refurbished. Nikon didn't, but that may have changed.

I recently purchased a refurbished Canon 80D. Like new, very pleased. I did have a problem, the battery was a dud, Canon listened, and replaced it with a new one without question. Everything was fine and has been since. Still 9 months warranty to go. It's the first Canon problem I have had in over four decades.

I would have to say that 95% of my L series lenses are refurbished from Canon. Never had any problems at all and the gear looks just like brand new. https://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en/catalog/lenses-flashes/refurbished-lenses Canon site for refurbished equipment. Good luck and welcome aboard.

Refurbished everything is always my first choice. I just ordered a refurbished scanner and saved $40.

Do not hesitate for a moment looking at factory refurbished equipment. That is always my first choice and my last body came through with 15 clicks on the shutter, and you could not tell the difference from new. Savings can vary by sellers.
Let us know how you make out.

UPDATE, just read that you went ahead with the refurbished selection. Great choice and have fun with your new purchase.

I think you are going to find, foozer, that most contributors to this site that have bought Refurbished have been very satisfied overall. Certainly, if you are favoring that Canon model anyway, you cannot overlook the savings. And, with the 1 yr guarantee?? What do you have to lose??

4 years ago I bought a factory refurbished Canon 7D and a refurbished 18-200 lens. Came in Canon Boxes. Good as new. Paid $1,100. About 1/2 the list price. About 20,000 clicks later, still good as new. (some put 2,000 in a weekend). Refurbished from the manufacturer or reliable store is the way to go. Just check the shutter count, and don't buy grey market.

Look at Canon's website now. I received an email yesterday, the Rebel 7i refurbished, is $499.99 yesterday and today only. (12/1, 12/2) This includes the 18-55mm lens. Their refurbished products come with a 1 year warranty. Canon USA. Good luck.

For me it's the best way to buy. I bought a Canon 7D a few years back and an 80D last year and both were as good as new....Rich
