Sorry for the repetition, glojo hadn't put up the pic of the same mug when I sent mine.

Not to the Mamiya! Noooooooo!

I agree! After a life of trying to keep dust and moisture out camera and lenses then someone intentionally puts dirt and water in it! That’s just wrong! ;) If they really wanted to insult photographers they would be growing mushrooms in it… Nobody wants fungus in their lenses!

Someone on the hog here has an avatar of a Cannon body being used as an ashtray… Now that’s funny! I laughed out loud. Sorry Cannonites, I really don’t hate Cannon I just have to much invested in Nikon to ever conceivably switch brands to anything else. Though if someone wants to give me a Blad I will use it, I just can’t afford to buy one.

I thought about getting one of those Nikon coffee mugs, but sometimes I put lenses in the cup holders in my car and I’m afraid of accidently putting lip prints on the front element of one of my lenses if I’m not paying attention… or worse pouring coffee in my camera! ;)

Maybe I will start looking for broken lenses on eBay and make a pen and pencil holder for my desk. Or I could slip a vase in a long lens... That would be fun.

Have a great day fellow Hogs! Keep up the good shots!

Thanks and here is my cheap and cheerful mug.. No handle on it and from a distance it looks quite the part. It is the correct scale for that lens.

An EFS lens? How can you get full-bodied flavor out of a cropped sensor lens? Maybe for espresso.
Looks pretty real. Imagine the thoughts of a thief, when realizing what he has stolen.

Then get the Nikon mug, it's a full frame lens. ;) Plus it's stainless so you won't get that plastic taste. I wonder if it's nanocoated?...
Photo lifted from the Nikon website. $39.95 if you want one (everything with the Nikon name on it is expensive :) ).

Maybe a Sigma mug would be cheaper... :)

Someone on UHH has for their avatar a Canon SLR on it's back with no lens. The opening where the lens mounts is filled with cigarette butts. Must have had a falling out with Canon. LOL!

I think the VR version would be handy if you get the caffeine jitters.

This was an end of school year gift from a student. I've since seen others.

I had two RB's and loved them. I wouldn't mind seeing a Bronica done that way. Joke was you needed 5 of those...one to use, one as a backup, one going to repair, one in repair and one coming back from repair. Kind of like a Fiat.

Is it bad that I kind of want a Fiat? They are cute.

Only if you're prepared to always leave your tripod at home

I like your posts here, GoofNoof, esp. with the helpful how-to-do-it links. I wish I had kept my Mirandas.

Your portfolio has some very good pictures in it. Nice sampling of your work to date. Not an outport in sight though. Now on to NewfoundLAND. I wondered about the bare-bones nature of it. No biographical information at all. Perhaps prose is in development. Looks like you did make it to Kansas City.

And, Scrapbooky, you look great in that red blouse and pose Avatar. Assuming it is you. Share more, with maybe a different background. Hard to configure maybe when limited to what the mirror reflects. I remember the lines from a French avante-garde film of Beauty and the Beast: "Mirrors should reflect more before casting back images."

Hey GoofyNewfie...in the early '70s I was assigned to a one man lab at Great Lakes Naval Station...I made a friend in town who ran a camera store. He had some kind of deal where he would take "any" camera as a trade in on the purchase of new stuff. He actually had 55 gallon drums full of all kinds of brownies and old box cameras, etc. in the back room. He told me they were going to the dump and to take anything I wanted. I honked a couple dozen back to my shop and tore them all to hell. Made a really interesting mobile from them...wish I still had it... it had lenses and shutters and pieces of old cameras all hanging from fishing line...
Ahh...the things we do when we are young...at least I didn't hurt myself...

In another post someone was asking about a store by the name of Camera Lamps and didn't initially provide a link.
When looking for it on Google, I ran across a lot of interesting images of lamps created with old cameras:

http://www.google.com/search?q=camera+lamps&hl=en&qscrl=1&nord=1&rlz=1T4ADFA_enUS436US436...

One studio where I assisted (about 17 years ago) used softboxes (Plume Wafers if I remember correctly) over the meeting room table.
Not surprisingly, they provided a nice, soft light.
There were also several Speedotron flash head reflectors for uplighting with maybe three 4x5 ground glass focusing screens underneath (with spacers) to diffuse the light a bit and add some more interest. Wish I had photos- they were quite creative, just like the owner.

At the Clark Air Force base photo lab in the Philippines, where I worked as a student, the maintenence guy made a lamp base using an old Nikon 50-300 zoom.

Anybody else have alternative uses for old cameras/ lenses/equipment?

I spent a great deal of time in the P.I. during the late 60's. One of my buddies sent me this today...pure genius. Not exactly off subject...more like a lighting "sidebar..."
GoofyNewfie will enjoy...

I was there twice, two years each. The people there were so friendly and humble...as long as you got away from the influence of the base. In high school, I learned where the San Miguel beer dispensers were at the enlisted men's quarters, snorkeling was amazing, got my first medium format camera, Mamiya C300 & 80mm for $180 new. Had to get used to earthquakes and monsoons.
Made lot of trips off base with the band and still have one of my shots from there in my portfolio, done when I was 17. It's the opening photo: http://members.photoshopuser.com/833907/portfolio/ That one was done with a Miranda G & Soligor 105, I think.

Thanks for asking.

They are very good to throw at the neighbors dog when I catch him crapping on my lawn.
