AOL mail problems

I've had AOL now for 24 years and service in general has been fairly good in recent years. But for the last 3 days I've been having email problems. It won't load and I get a "504 Gateway Timeout" come up on the screen. Am I supposed to know what that is?? I'm sure many of you will tell me to dump AOL. Does anyone know what this problem may be? Thanks

I don't use AOL, but 504 isn't unique to AOL. The links below should help. If you're considering an alternative, Gmail is excellent.

When I was working as a tech I advised all my business customers to stay clear of AOL it caused to many problems for them and me. A great alternative is GMail as Jerry stated. GMail is cloud based and crosses over in real time to all of my electronic devices with no hic-cups.
