I see where some cameras will let you use your smart phone as a remote control. I am curious if many of you have done this, and what your thoughts/opinions are.
Thank you.

No dumb phone is going to control
my camera!!
I have Panasonic cameras and their app. Works great.
It is a little easier and quicker to plug in a wired remote. But the app does a lot more.
I use a program called dslrdashboard
https://dslrdashboard.info/I downloaded this app to takes bracket photos on my D3300. If your camera can access the internet you can control almost every aspect of your camera.
The Program works on cell phone and tablets.
I sat in the bar watching and taking photos, adjusting the shutter speed, +1/-1 brakcet and aperture setting of the Eclips all on my tablet
And it's FREE
Hi, I have the Canon 6d with built in wifi and have used both my iPhone and my iPad to control and trigger the camera. I find it is very useful with the camera set up outside by the bird feeders in the winter and triggering the shot from the comfort and warmth of the house.
I like the feature a lot. Also works extremely well for reducing camera shake and movement caused when pressing the shutter button while the camera is on a tripod. The software is supplied by Canon and is called Canon Connect.

I downloaded the Nikon app for my tablet and it works fine, but I would rather use a simple remote.

I've used my phone as a TV remote, but not for the camera. I have dedicated remotes for the cameras - smaller and lighter.
I use the Canon app for my I phone and 5D4 and it works very well. I can see the image in my phone without any issues and control the ISO, speed, and f-stop.
