for the Nikon users. is there any third party flashes the are compatible with the Nikon cls. I have a D7200 and also the R1C1 flash. great for macro but I want to use the commander for shots that need more light. can't see spending money on recievers and transmitters and Nikon flashes are a bit pricey.

Consider this, I have several YONGNUO..they work great:

You can buy pretty much any third party flashes tailored for Nikon!

I believe the Godoa/Adorama Flashpoint TT685 does.

I've only used it with the radio remotes and will check tonight.
A great value and an extensive system.

I would also look at Phottix which offers excellent products (flash, triggers, monolights, etc.)

Nikon flashes prove to be worth it... they are more than just flashes, though they can be set to do just that. They contain mini computers and are impressive stand alone devices on their own, using nikon TTL, I know canon users that prefer Nikon flash's . They have a built in wireless sync between camera and flash- not perfect either... but i use it that way often, not sure on your model camera. . They are built quite tough- so i'd even consider used.

There is a learning curve in lieu of their being so adjustable, but if you concentrate on what you are doing and study up on how to set them up to do that, you can get to the settings fast. DO this study/for application for any m number of lighting scenarios, and pretty soon you will beign to control these beasts. Not saying they are perfect, but they are powerful/ professional units, thus the price.

All that being said, I have some cheapo's too LOL

don't want to spend 500.00 for a Nikon flash that I will use sparingly. used SB600's are still going for over 100.00 and I can get a more powerful third party flash new for less.

I find the Altura Pro AP-N1001 does a good job.

I use the Altura on my D7100 and it works great . It has TTL and manual settings, you can use it on the camera on a stand and only about $60.00.

I do know the sb800 will work with the commander.
