Actually, Chris, I only had one SLR, a Canon AE-1. I bought it when they first came out and stayed with it, through many various lens', until it was obvious Digitals were the future. I now own only bridge cameras, due to my age and health, but any of them, my SX60, B700, P900 have it all over the SLR's of the AE-1 ilk, in my humble opinion. Understand this is my experience only, and I obviously was never "steeped" in SLR's to the extent many of our members were.
Insman ... in many ways, you're probably right!!! .... Your SX-60 has a wide end of 21mm ... and a long end of 1365mm. And your P-900 has a wide of 24mm and extends out to 2000mm!!! ... And they both have 16mp sensors, to boot ... so, digitally, they both (all 3, actually) are head and shoulders above what the AE-1 could do. But, then - you get into the old argument that the AE-1 was a full-fledged semi-auto SLR - capable of allowing 20x24 blowups, even 30x40, in a pinch ... something none of your bridges is capable of attaining. The best you can do with ANY of them is an 11x14 ... and that would be pushing some. Those sensors are just 1/2.3" ... which is a 6x crop ... compared to a FF 35mm, like the AE-1 ... but, you are right ... FF DSLRS are monsters, compared to the size of micro-sensor bridges. But, now ... that P-900 is fairly heavy!
