The viewfinder flashes red??? Are you sure you don’t have have a flashing red error warning? It should be explained in your user’s manual.

Could this be the issue?

I'm getting this error, "FEE" when I try shooting with Rokinon AE 14mm wide angle lens on the Nikon d7000 camera body. The interesting thing is - when I put the aperture at F22 the error goes away. However when it change it to a wider aperture I get the error again.

If it has an aperture ring it must be stopped down all the way.

As it is very often: Google's your friend!
http://www.rokinon.com/lenses/digital-photo-lenses/16mm-f20 (scroll down till you see the words "User Manual" - click on those.

https://www.amazon.com/Rokinon-16M-C-Aspherical-Angle-Cameras/dp/B00DOVD9Z0
Scroll down to "Product Information -> Technical Specification.

I have not downloaded these manuals (which may actually be identical to each other) to see if they answer your question, figured you could do that yourself.

This is normal. Stop down to the smallest aperture, then you can control the aperture in the camera, just not on the lens. I have a 500mm mirror lens that does the same thing.

no user manual, the pdf manual is a pain, and does not address the problem. I figured out the aperture problem from searching online for hours. Thanks for the lens manual links, did not address the problem. I guess i'll keep looking. Thanks for trying!

It's not the lens, it's the camera. That can happen if your highlight warnings (blinkies) are turned on and you overexpose.

On manual, try lowering the ISO, closing down the aperture and/or setting a higher shutter speed.

I believe the blinking red warning is telling you that to use the lens in a camera controlled mode you must manually put the lens aperture at the minimum size so that the camera can adjust from maximum to minimum as the incoming light dictates.

When you get the fEE message the shutter won’t fire. The shutter did fire in this case.
