I have enough spares not to worry about it, but will usually re-charge them within a day or two. I read an article that stated Li-Ion batteries do lose power over time without any use. Some less, some more. Found this to be a fact.
I have been fortunate that 3rd party batteries have served me as well as OEM at a considerable savings. I have purchased some that so not last as long as OEM batteries, but not by much. Fact is at the 3rd party price you can by 2-3 spares for the same price as a single factory brand battery depending on model and power.

A shutter repair after warranty can cost about $350. That's about 5 new Nikon camera batteries.
I don’t understand presumed connection between the two.

This reply by me was directed to someone who stated he was interested in shutter lifespan than battery life. My reply was a bad choice of words.
