Culling photos and making raws delete at the same time jpegs do....
Is anyone using software that will allow raws to be deleted with a single stroke of the delete key when deleting the jpeg? I shoot raw + jpeg and I cull photos by viewing the jpegs and simply hitting delete on the non-keepers. Of course then I have to go back and separately delete the raws, either manually, or by tagging them and doing a batch edit to delete the raws. This would be SO much easier if the raws would disappear when I delete the jpegs. I think Photo Mechanic might have a setting that will allow that to happen but I am not positive yet, and it is fairly expensive. Thanks.
I put the raw and JPG in the same folder. I preview in Irfanview and when I hit delete for the JPG I hit the right arrow and delete a second time. It's not auto but only takes a split second.

You are correct: PhotoMechanic does. You can have both raw and JPEG up or just have them represented by one image.
Not cheap, but it’s rock-solid and super fast to use.
I’ve been using it for years and it has never crashed, unlike other programs I use (I have to work from a remote server)
Developed for photojournalists.
I use it when I have events.
Gives the fastest preview of images (raw or jpeg) i’ve ever seen.

Thank you for the reply! That is what I will do unless I get Photo Mechanic I guess, where hitting the delete key will also delete the raw file. Thanks again.

http://www.camerabits.comThank you for this GoofyNewfie (love that name!). Good, this does confirm that PhotoMechanic will do that. Is the learning curve very steep? I understand it is not a very complete editor so it must be very good at what it does.

http://www.camerabits.comIt's funny that they brag that they are the fastest media browser. Wouldn't the speed depend on the person doing the viewing? Maybe all the images zip through like a video.
RAW and JPEG go in one folder when downloaded. I also initially save edited JPEG and PSD in the same file. When I am finished I move keepers to a permanent file, change the name of the temporary file to something I will recognize later, then delete the whole temporary folder. After a while (6 months or so) I will go back and review the recycle bin and delete anything I am sure I will never need again.

Good reason not to shoot raw+jpeg I suppose. I shoot just raw and I cull after import into Lightroom. Sometimes I use Bridge or On1 to do the culling. But you are correct - having to delete two versions of every file is a real pain.

Photomechanic is the application Associated Press photographers use to sort and do a an upload to their Photo Editors.
Many thanks for all of the replies! Much appreciated and informative. For now I have settled on FastStone Image Viewer for viewing and culling my images. It is color managed, has keywording and tagging if needed, and lots of other features, and is freeware as well. When viewing the images full size in FastStone, and using the Right/Left arrows, it is super fast and almost instantaneous. I have the raws and jpegs side beside each other in the folder so I can eliminate the non-keepers just by hitting delete twice quickly. Give FastStone a consideration for a color managed quick viewer and thanks again.
