My Wife surprised me with a pre Christmas present yesterday, A brand new canon 5D Miv. So not owning any CF cards I was looking for some recommendations on which ones work well in this camera.

Thanks in advance

Tom

Tom, I use sandisk extreme 32gb. You can get 64gb and I believe 128gb, but I don’t like to put all my eggs in one basket so I bought four 32gb CF cards. That way, when I visit my daughters or grandkids, I can use one for the family shots and another for scenery shots and another for birds, etc. Makes my importing into Lightroom easier.

Does the manual spell out the tech soecs the CF cards should meet?

That’s a hell of a surprise! Congrats on a great camera (I’m envious). I use the Lexar 1066x Professional UDMA7 in 32GB sizes for my Mk3. I would also consider the Sandisk Extreme Pro. I don’t shoot video, so I don’t use anything larger than a 32 on my 5D3, which will hold over 1,000 raw images (a little less for you). I want to limit what I lose in the event I lose a card. I have been happy with SanDisk, I never had one fail, or any kind of issue with any of them in over 10 years!

Ditto Sandisk. With 7D use 16GB cards - about 550 raw shots - to minimize eggs-in-one-basket risk, but not require too frequent card changes. I shoot wildlife so i’m outside, frequently shooting 10-15 shot sequences.

I've used both Lexar and San Disk and have had good luck with both, although I did have one San Disk that was DOA, but that was probably an anomaly.

I prefer 32GB, but the larger image sizes from the 5DIV will fit less than 1000 RAW files on a card like the 5DIII model. Maybe you are due to jump to 64GB?

you can't go wrong with Sandisk. Just decide on a capacity.

Check out Hoodman brand cards. I have used sd cards and found that they write much faster than other cards. Never a problem with them, and my number one choice ever since. Am hoping to get a CF card soon! And it also will be a Hoodman!

Here's a link that B&H compiled on Memory Cards, a year old but informative and we also know how fast technology advances....

I use the same on my 5D MIII and 7D MII. Never an issue.

Sandisk Extreme Pro 95 MB/s 32 GB is what I use with great success. About $23.00 - $26.00 on ebay brand new.
