Nikon 10-20 or Tokina 11-16?
Greetings,
I have been lurking and following this forum for a few years now and have learned a great deal from you knowledgable men and women. I use a d5200, which I love, and desire to round out my lens collection with an ultra-wide angle. Which would you acquire and why? Thank you very much in advance. I love this forum.

Taken from my back yard in Utah
I had the Tokina and did not like accuracy of the auto focus on my Nikon d3300. It was good and sharp, but with focus missing, I could not rely on it. I recently got the Nikon 10-20mm and so far so good. I like the VR.
Thank you so much for the quick reply.

Beautiful capture Paul! I have the Tokina and it's been a very good, sharp lens for me on my DX body. I also used it for Northern Lights running time lapse while taking pictures with my full frame and Nikon 14-24. The pictures from the Tokina are just as good...in my opinion. I was just in your backyard for the first time a week ago....and got to go to The Wave. What a beautiful place and so many things to photograph. Planning to return in February and hoping for some snow on those red rocks.
Welcome to the Forum Paul.
Both of these lenses are designed for the crop sensor camera. The Nikon AF-P 10-20mm is a f4.5, VR, Price is $307. The Tokina 11-16mm is a f2.8. Price $400. The extended Nikon warranty may be longer than the Tokina. The Nikon is very plastic like. For lighter weight. Read reviews on each lens. Tokina also makes an 11-20mm f2.8, which is better than the above mentioned. The choice is up to you. Welcome to the forum too. Good luck.
I have the Tokina 11-16 and the f2.8 is really nice to have for indoor shots
and shooting the Milky Way. Picked mine up used for 300. Very sharp photos
and no issues.

Have you also looked at the Sigma 8-16mm ?
I got a used Tokina 11-16 in pretty much "like new" condition in original box for $170 from a guy on Craigslist about a year ago and so far it has been great - sharp and reliable. Feels well made. I used it for landscape and night sky shots.

Paul, If you can get by with an f4, take a peek at the Tokina 12-28. I have taken some awesome shots with mine in my D7200.
I like the Tokina on my D7100. When I got the D750, I got the Tokina 16-28mm. No complaints. Look for online reviews and comparisons.

I have the Tonkin 11-16f2.8 (I think it's designated as pro line)
My point is this thing is so sharp on my D500
BTW it's my only non Nikkor glass I use on my Nikon bodies
Warnings there are several editions out there make sure your getting the most recent produced and also there is a low line and a high line of the same lens
I know this as I purchased the high line while my friend got the cheeper one and I can see the difference when pixel peeping there is an overall image quality difference

Nice backyard. Also very nice picture.
Nice, Nice, Nice Backyard
Tokina 11-16 2.8 is what I have. Perfect fo indoor shots of museums or churches and old buildings. Photos inside your home will show 3 walls of the room !!! Gives you a great idea of the space.
