I have a nice telephoto lens on a Canon EOS 620 (film. 1987 purchase ) and I wonder if the auto-focus telephoto lens on it would work on a Canon 7D Mark II or not? Does anyone know?

I myself have posted this multiple times to your various posts: yes.

One of the many "magic" properties of the Canon EOS system is their EF lenses will work on all EOS bodies, both film and digital from the oldest EOS film or digital bodies using the newest EF lenses as well as oldest EF lenses to newest EOS bodies, both full frame and cropped. Your EF lens is identified by the EF identifier text as well as the red mounting dot. Align that red dot on the lens to the same red dot on the camera body and turn clockwise to lock. All of this applies to the full-frame EF lenses. "Modern" EF lenses including Image Stabilization (IS) operate with full functionality even when used on film EOS bodies that predate IS technologies.

The EF-S lenses use a white square and are limited for use to only cropped sensor EOS bodies that also provide a white square indicating the mount position on the camera body. The crop sensor bodies can mount both the full-frame EF lenses (back to the 1987 film days and the EF-S lenses that are all digital specific). The cropped EOS body provides both the red dot and white square indicating the mount positions for the appropriate lens types. You'd have to force (aka break) either the body or the lens to force an EF-S lens onto a full-frame EOS body.

Well then, I’ll ask for a Canon EOS 7D Mark II for my December 4th birthday - Christmas present. It should only cost about $1200 - $1100, or more, I don’t know. I hope the price will come down more. Does anyone know what parameters and problems to look for, before I buy one from somebody?

Just wondering which EF lens it is? All EF and EF-s lenses will work on the 7D Mark II.

Get notified when a sale takes place over at Canon Price Watch. Between Thanksgiving and New Years, there will be plenty of sales. Maybe consider refurbished. This is peak time for discounts.

If used, check the shutter count.

If used or new, get at least 1 extra battery and 2 x 32GB CF cards at 90 mb/s as well as at least 1 x 32GB at 90 mb/s. You want your two cards to be the same high / highest speed assuming you're interested in the 7DII for wildlife photography. A more general purpose body, at a lower cost and higher image quality, is the 80D.

It’s a nice 100-400 mm 1:5.6 = something like that. It had a macro switch also. I put my husband’s Canon EOS 620 camera with this lens back on his shelf. The only thing that worries me now is the fact that I couldn’t take a picture anymore because the shutter button would not go all the way down, to take a picture. I put the camera and lens on his shelf not knowing what was wrong with it. Is there any way a broken lens could cause a Canon camera to NOT take a picture, or is it just some problem with the camera or camera settings?

Take the lens to a camera store and test it.

Do you honestly think they are going to push a potential customer away? Just tell them you are considering buying a 7DII and you would like to see how it pairs with your lens. That isn't a lie.

EF is EF is EF

Any EF lens will work on any EOS body.

Any EF-S lens will work on any EOS APS-C body {a subset of above}
