My cruise to the Caribbean Islands.
I spent last week aboard the MSC Divina on a cruise to St. John, Antigua, Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands and Nassau, Bahamas. The original cruise was to St. Marteen and Puerto Rico but due to the devastation caused in both islands by the hurricanes the itinerary was changed.
It was cloudy most of the time with occasional rain. It was hot in Antigua but not so in St. Thomas and Nassau that were having cool temperatures making it more comfortable to walk around. The people in these islands, as many of you that have been there know are very friendly. I am sure you also know that tax free and free zone is a myth. Alcoholic beverages are reasonably priced, perhaps cigarettes also but I seldom drink and I do not smoke. I know nothing about perfume prices but I saw many perfumes of French origin for sale, also many watches of different European manufacturers and some Japanese. For sure cameras and lenses were cheaper in NY so if you go there be very careful or they will burn you.
I hired guides in Antigua and Nassau. In Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, I took a taxi and visited the downtown area to see and photograph the Red Castle and the Blackbeard Castle, the latter was unfortunately closed. I had to climb 109 steps to get to the Blackbeard Castle and that reminded me I am no spring chicken any longer. I was tired on my way back to the ship.
All images were made using a Nikon D610 with the following lenses, the 28-105 f3.5-4.5 AF-D, the 50 mm. f1.4 S from the mid seventies that I had converted to AI so that I could use it with my FX camera and the excellent 12-24 f4 AF-S DX lens that I use with the full frame body between 16-24 mm without vignettes. All images hand holding the camera.
Editing using Nikon Capture NX2, Photoshop and Topaz Adjust 5 using presets but modifying the effect to make the photograph look more natural to the eye. I shot a couple of HDR shots and I used for them Photomatix Professional for the editing.
1- A partial view of the Miami skyline at dusk prior to departure.
2- People having some fun at the pool.
3- This beautiful young lady posed for me in St. John, Antigua.
4- The bay in Antigua as I saw it from the mountains.
5- A sunset over the Atlantic Ocean.
6- One of the many beautiful beaches in Antigua.
More to come.
Sounds like you had fun. Nice pics! ë¿ë
Very nice pictures!
THanks for posting
A cruise is the best. Very nice set.
Yes, it was fun! Antigua as I said was hot and humid which made me feel uncomfortable carrying the D610 and lenses in the heat. By one of the beaches we visited while there I felt the smell of fried fish and I could not resist. 5 minutes later I was eating fresh fried fish looking at the ocean and it does not come any better than that.
Thank you all for the nice comments. I have others that I will post as I finish editing them.
Fantastic series William, beautiful photographed. Thanks for sharing your vacation with us.

My pleasure. You know I am a great admirer of your photography and I thank you for your comments.
Cruises are a lot of fun and great to rest although because of their itinerary they are a little bit tight when it comes to photography.
