Canmore is a town in Alberta's Rocky Mountains, about 20 minutes East of Banff. Prior to leaving for our road trip an acquaintance suggested that we stay in Canmore. He described it as being a place like Banff used to be 25 years ago. Less crowded & a neat small town. So we took his advice & booked 2 of our vacation days for that area & it was an easy drive to Banff, etc. They also suggested that we check out the Grassi Lakes high above the town. It was a little tricky getting to that area, and once we did......it was drizzling! So we passed on the idea of Grassi lakes (a hike up a muddy trail) & proceeded to follow the unpaved road for some 23 miles before turning around heading down. We loved the adventure as we viewed a variety of lakes, low clouds, snow covered mountains & even some falling snow! A couple of weeks after we had returned home & were attending The Heartland Film Festival......I leaned over to Betty as we were watching a film & said....."I have that exact shot! I took it when we drove up above Canmore!" Bob

Thank you Islandgal.......for your delightful comment! So glad you enjoyed them. I'm doing a series of these "Travels with Bob....." from our road trip where we covered 5923 miles in Sept/October while I had 16 days off. Canmore was a bit of a surprise and certainly an uplifting adventure for us. Much appreciated, Bob

Lovely shots of a gorgeous area. I've been enjoying your entire series. I try to spend a few weeks in that area at once every year or two.
It's a shame you didnt make it up to Grassi Lakes, they're small but incredibly pretty.
I heartally endorse that region for photo ops of scenery and wildlife.

Thank you so much Keldon for taking the time to enjoy the "entire series". You folks certainly have some beautiful country up there in Canada! My Mom was originally from Nova Scotia so always enjoy our travels across the border. Sure wished I had made it to Grassi Lakes, but the rain/snow mix was coming down a wee bit more than expected. I chatted with a couple of other folks & they were much more prepared to hike it than we were with proper boots, clothing, etc. They even extended an invitation for me to join up with them since they knew my wife felt uncomfortable about doing it. It was tempting....but decided we would follow the unpaved road for further adventure. It turned out to be very fulfilling. Before posting this I did Google Grassi Lakes just to see what we missed. Perhaps.....next time!
