So I get a call 2 weeks ago from the store where I ordered the Nikon D850 and they tell me they received the camera so they will be shipping it to me right away. Soon after they call me back to tell me they misunderstood and that they really got a D850 allocation notice from Nikon. I was told since I am within the first handful on the list I should be getting one as soon as they come in next week. Next week has come and gone with nothing received yet by the store. They are telling me that they get no notice of when they are receiving the camera. They only know they will be getting an allocation. So then why would the store tell me they would be receiving by the following week when they don't know. Also, why preauthorize the charge to my credit card telling me it will speed things along when they get the camera. That's hogwash. The preauthorization will only stay on my acct for 5 days and I can call the bank to have them remove the preauthorization anyhow at anytime. The store did the preauthorization when I ordered originally and I had the bank remove it. I subsequently lost my credit card and had it replaced. I called the store to replace with another card number and they preauthorized yet again. This time, however, they included sales tax, when they shouldn't have because they are in NJ and shipping to NY. I called them and they said they will credit the difference but again, this is only a preauthorization. While I know everything from Nikon is so secretive, how can this all be happening like this? Should I be suspicious of the store? Maybe they did come in and I was entitled to get it but maybe they put someone else or several people in front of me or decided to make more money by selling on eBay? They are a well known and established store. Never a problem before. This is so strange.

There are well known established stores that are considered less than reputable. Since you don't name the store all anyone can do is flip a coin.

Supply and demand. Patience sometimes has to be exercised. For a camera that costs $3300, I guarantee you, that Nikon will catch up to get that money. Sooner, or later. When they catch up in stock, you'll be able to get that camera in less than a week. You want the camera, and Nikon wants your $3300. Eventually, you'll get your hands on a D850.

I'm on the list at Arlington Camera in Arlington, TX. They require no pre-authorization of my credit card. When my name comes up I will have 24 hours to pick up the camera or it will go to the next person on the list. I don't know that I will actually purchase the camera. It's quite an outlay of money.

Opusx300,

If you're still interested in a Nikon D850 I might have an extra one coming. I received an email from Nikon Professional Service this week stating they are giving me priority on one when they already sent me one. If you're interested and Nikon sends it to me, I'll sell it to you if you want it. I'm hoping they received my cancelation though.

I am resisting mentioning the name since i have no substantial reason to believe they are not reputable. I do not want to potentially bad mouth them for no reason. As I have mentioned in my originsl post they are in NJ. They are the biggest camera store in the state. That’s all i will state.

Opus,

I'm not sure, My last one came a week after I ordered it. Then I get another email from NPS stating they are giving me priority and processing my order when they got me one through my camera dealership. Not sure what happened. I sent them an email to cancel the order but haven't heard back from them.

I've attached a copy of the email from NPS. If I were you I would ordered one from a repute dealership (B&H or Adorama) and I'll PM you if NPS sends me another one if you still want it. I don't need two D850. This way you're covered.

Dear Robert:

As a member of Nikon Professional Services (NPS), we would like to inform you Nikon has your D850 NPS priority delivery request and is ready to process your order. As you may know, the response for orders for this new and exciting D-SLR camera is significant. As a result, we are confirming your priority delivery request.

Our team has reached out to your retailer of record: NIKON STORE and let them know your camera will ship from Nikon and arrive at their location shortly.

Please communicate with your retailer in regards to your order.

As an NPS member, you'll always have priority for items in high demand. Please note if you have requested more than one D850, NPS is assisting with priority delivery on one camera request per NPS Member.

Thank you for your continued support and genuine excitement for the Nikon D850!

Best Regards,

From Your NPS Team

This is not about me being impatient. I was prepared to wait quite a while. But then these weird calls and then they dont have it when they say they will. Wouldnt have thought anything of it if it werent for their calls and statement it would be there last week.

Not necessary. Was just curious. Let me know when you hear anything regarding the camera. Have a good rest of your weekend.

Waiting for something as special as a D850 can generate anxiety and suspicion. You pre-ordered the camera. The store got a notice that it's on its way from Nikon, so they passed that information along to you. Neither the customers nor the stores know exactly when they will receive products. That's the problem with pre-ordering. You never know which store will receive the item from Nikon first. Your neighbor could have ordered from a different store after you did, yet his camera could arrive before yours does. Don't sweat it. If worse come to worse, you can cancel and buy when everyone has them in stock.
