Grabbed these on assignment last week in Westminster, CO, for a pair of suburban Denver newspapers. This pair of high schoolers had been practicing for a Midwest US competition this weekend (Nov 18) in Bloomington, MN. Was in the hockey bench area, Nikon 7200 w/a Nikkor 2.8 70-200 @ 135mm. Though I had their coach turn on the hockey game lighting, it was by no means anywhere near NHL standards. Hence I shot at 1/800th of second F2.8 and 1600 ISO. As a rule of thumb for sports, I always try and start at 1/1000, but in this instance, I needed more light. The other involves a flock of wild turkeys which have gravitated to local lady who raises domestic turkeys. These wild birds were actually pretty docile around me. Used the aforementioned lens as well.
Amazing the confidence of the female skater to be caught (in the first shot.) A different breed...
Nice work.
Poetry in motion. I like!!
They have to have such confidence in each other to do what they do. Wonderful captures.
