Hello, my name is Scott. About 15 years ago my wife and I bought a Canon Powershot S3 IS camera (about $450) because we were going on a cruise. I don't think in those 15 years it was ever taken off of the Automatic mode. A few months ago I decided to find out what the other settings on the camera would do. So, I signed up and am taking an online photography course. I think ugly hedgehog will be a great supplement for the course. I am very interested in outdoor photography. Sports, wildlife, landscape. I am now in the market for a new camera which is very daunting with all the choices,
Welcome to the forum. Look at the used market you can get some great deals.
You're on the right track, formal learning plus hands on. Master the technology before moving up, plus evaluate your own artistic vision abilities. That will give you a sense of how much you can benefit from a technology upgrade.
I did that last Christmas. I believe the biggest item is what you will be doing with the output. If you are going to print larger then 8x10 a full frame sensor will be a good fit. If you plan on 4x5, photo book or just occasional printing and APS, may be a better fit. APS also better fits a tight budget. Next what type of photography, this will give you an idea of type of lens you will want in the future. If budget is a concern, start a wish list of lens and there prices. I found that APS, telephoto lenses are less expensive and light then equivalent full frame lenses. However, full frame is better for wide angle.
Google can be you best friend in finding reviews for equipment.
