I have a Fuji S3280 and I would like to upgrade. I mainly take shots of landscape, flowers and animals.
Could you please recommend what I should upgrade to and why.

The Nikon D5100 looks like a good deal right now.

What can you afford? Consider the Nikon D3100 or the Canon T3i, both have been recently succeeded by newer improved versions of themselves (D3200/T4i) and should be good buys now. Or you can go the previously owned/used route and get a great camera for literally peanuts.

While there are a lot of amazing products out there, I recently
purchased a Nikon D5100. It's a great camera. With my added
300 mm lens, and special features, it,s great for everything from
portraits to landscapes. I'm having a ball with mine!

Are you wanting to go DSLR or stay with a 'bridge' camera? The current Fuji bridge cameras are very good choices. I personally looked at the Fuji, Nikon and Canon 'bridge' cameras and based partially on reviews, but MAINLY on the results from the various cameras as they have been posted on UHH I purchased the Canon SX40hs and have been VERY pleased with its awesome zoom range, low-light capability with low noise when compared to the settings, and the vibration reduction is also super in low light or at extreme zoom range. This is also the FIRST camera that I have been willing to use without shutting off the digital zoom capability.

Personally, within that budget my recommendation would be to make sure you handle each one you consider, then make your choice. My choice would most likely be the following after hands on, looking at UHH users photos and some other reviews.

1-Canon SX40hs
2-Fuji (not sure which model)
3-Nikon P510

I went with the SX40 because of the articulating screen, then discovered how good the camera really is.

From what I have read here refurbished is a good idea. Many times the equipment is BETTER than new.
