With battery's...keeping it charging could induce a memory in the battery and won't fully charge. Or the battery may over heat and cause a fire if you leave the laptop on all the time with it plugged in. If it's just a couple hrs., then you're ok. Hope it helps.

I don't like leaving anything with a battery plugged in all the time.
Leaving the battery in the laptop isn't what creates a memory situation. It's the partial discharge & recharge condition that causes that problem. Lithium batteries are less prone to that problem than NiCad & NiMH batteries. What shortens the life of laptop batteries is leaving them in & running your laptop plugged in. Everytime you turn the laptop on & off, that's a recharge cycle. Laptop batteries are generally good for about 500 cycles. I leave the battery out of my laptop when I'm at home. Once a month I unplug my laptop, put the battery in, run it down, plug in the AC adapter, charge it back up, & take it out. My laptop will be 9 years old next month. I'm on my 2nd battery. Based on the 500 recharge cycle idea, I discharge/charge my battery 12 times a year. Maybe a few more if I visit family in Pittsburgh or Cleveland. In theory, my battery should last 41+ years. I doubt the laptop will hold together that long. More likely it won't run some version of Windows in the future requiring an upgrade.
Keep mine plugged in all the time ,no problems yet. Over two years.

Have you checked to see how long it will run on battery?
My Mac has been plugged in for years. Never take it anywhere.

Same here, only it's been about 5 years or more...
Only occasionally use my laptop without plugging it in. Don't have any heat problems. Use a mat under it, bought years ago that has crystals that melt from the heat of the laptop working. Can only feel a little heat when shut down even after hours.
