I don't think it is "hideously" slow, but it does seem to be quite a bit slower when I first open a file to edit it than Lightroom is. Once opened though, I have not experienced it being slow. And I also do not have a slow PC, i7 6700 processor, 64GB RAM, M.2 Samsung 950 Pro for my C:drive.

Thanks, Vince68. The slowness comes when I adjust using the sliders. Compared to others that I've used, it's still slow IMHO. Hideously may be too strong a word, but unresponsive when you are trying to tweak something equals slow. The no save prompt on exit, to me, is unforgiving, however. At least, with LR, the edits are preserved in a xmp file so it's okay just to shut down. With Luminar, you are in a word "SOL." Luminar's exit strategy reminds me of last year when I took a header off a mountain bike. Unacceptable dismount and ditto in the Windows' environment. Yes, I was aware of the save/export photo capability.

I chose not to be held up any further by LR and decided to go strictly with Luminar. I previously had Luminar 2017 as an LR plugin, but as I noodled around the program more and more it quickly became clear that Luminar is vastly superior to LR (the only thing I haven't been able to do is to add a watermark w/out using a 3rd party application, but I'm certain the Macphun engineers will remedy this soon).

Try it...you will like it.

JUST finished installing Luminar on my 2011 Imac and it works great. And I only have 4 gb ram. But one thing I still like, and would miss on LR, is the ability to search files by camera, lens etc. I didn't take a lot of time when I first started using LR years ago. So my files are filed by date and event. But as you get older you can't always remember where that particular photo is.

I watched the first Morganti Luminar tutorial, which he is doing on a Mac platform. There are numerous commands that he demonstrates that are not available in the Windows version starting with the white balance adjustment in the Raw essential filter. Unless you are a Mac user, this program is flawed and should not have been released.

One last point. The export capability under the File menu is limited compared to the Mac version. For example, you cannot save/export the history file. So, regardless of whether you save as a jpeg, tiff, or png, if you restart Luminar and reload the image file, the edit history is gone forever.

I have been told that within a short time, both Windows and Mac versions will be the same. I am a windows user and found it frustrating watching videos, and realizing I did not have the same buttons. I am surprised this was released before getting all the kinks out.

In short I'm fine with the speed improvement in 2018 compared to the first 2017 edition. I'm not a pro, far from it but I do like seeing the results that come so intuitively. I have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro with 16 gigs of ram and my IT friends tell me the real speed improvement in computers now days is more in the SSD storage drives which I have just installed. Open up your activity monitor in utilities while running Luminar and you'll see it is a very efficient app.

I have Luminar Neptune and really like it. Does Luminar 2018 come with a reduced price for upgrading, or do you have to buy it full price?
