As believers, we have an assurance that our salvation is not of our own doing. We don't make it happen, we don't keep it, and we cannot lose it. There are quite a few verses that talk about this but this is one of my favorites; Jesus has previously explained why some believe and some don't, His explanation is that those who believe have been given to the Son by the Father, sometimes called sheep, sometimes called the elect, and that if they are given, they will most certainly be raised to eternal life; Jesus cannot fail.
