Hi, Being relatively new to photography I would like to branch out a little with the macro. I have a canon 7d with a 18-200 lens. The macro I am looking at is a Canon EF Macro 100mm f/2.8 USM Lens. Would this be a good one for my camera?
Thanks :)

I have the same lens. It is absolutely phenomenal!!! I have a Canon 5D Mark II and I also used it on my 30D.

You will love this lens, but be prepared to use a tripod if you are serious about getting sharp images at high magnification. You can opt for the IS version if you intend to hand hold and shoot. This really helps but is a little extra cost up front.

I would choose the one with IS.

They make 2 EF 100mm macro lenses. The more expensive L series lens has a larger objective glass and has Image Stability. The IS is worth the extra money but the less expensive macro takes fine images. The less expensive lens is a little harder to keep steady so it takes a few more shots to get the final image you're looking for. I owned both and traded up to the IS model.

Take a look on the Web at the reviews on the Tokina
100 2.8 macro lens for the Canon. You will save quite
a bit of money and the lens has a lot more advantages,
especially the slip clutch that takes you from manual to
Auto in an instant. The reviews are tops, and the photos
are great.

Several macro-photographers on UHH use one or the other of the Canon 100-mm lenses. You can see their work here:

This would be an excellent choice. Have seen many good reports on it.
