why do old timers respond with an attitude?

So often there is this superior attitude by some on here, as if they need in some way to make an OP feel stupid. There are those here that are friendly and respectful of others as well.... Why do some here need to be right all of the time? Why do so some need to write so much, instead of keeping it simple and short? I think our opinions are what should be prime not lengthy techno stuff.... Opinions are valuable when combined with experience and a friendly helpful attitude.

Lee, as much as one may want to read, or provide a simple answer, photography tends to be a bit involved technically. More so with moving into the digital age. It is obvious that digital cameras are far more technical than film cameras are. As such, sometimes lengthy answers are called for and short answers seem rudely abrupt.

Right on!!!
Unfortunately, I think it is a function of growing old. Grumpiness seems to be age related. Even worse, is the tendency to run down the younger generations or portray them as feckless and unwilling to learn. I have the good fortune to work with many millennials and find them to be hardworking, conscientious and highly intelligent. I am in my mid sixties and already see deterioration in my physical capabilities, but I really dread the thought that age will nibble away at my sense of humor and tolerance of others.

I get where you are coming from, but stating simply your opinion and then a reference link might be something to consider, don't you think?

I do that, when possible. Sometimes it's easier to just write and answer than spend time searching for an appropriate link.

HI you are a young man compared to me, and as being older I am still fully active in my photography business. I feel that a beginner has to be humble to ask a question here. Not all young people are unwilling to learn, as when they were teenagers. Many grow up and respect the experience of the older generations and professionals. The body may show lack of capabilities but the brain can be youthful and intelligent.

I am fully aware of what you are saying, but I would love to have this forum become more civil. Photographers being part of special forum united in sharing stories and tips, as well as being helpful to those that are just starting out, like we all started out , at one time. Can we remember when the knew nothing about photography? Can we remember taking not so good photos. Can we remember learning how to?

I think some of the technical answers get a little long. But that's probably because they go way beyond things I understand. It doesn't mean that somebody else isn't eating the stuff up and learning from it. When they get to that point I move on.

The other thing is [and I have been guilty of this] forgetting that the written word comes across a lot differently than the 'face to face' spoken word. It's hard to see the smile on someone's face looking at text on a screen.

Life on the internet ... it ain't always easy.

"Life on the internet ... it ain't always easy".
Dilbert says, "Technology and the internet aren't for whimps".

Oh, and when I am being a smart ass, I usually put the beneath my name.

Actually this forum is relatively civil compared to others...

The admin has a part in this and his hands off approach does work to some degree.

I agree with you, but, does it always have to be that way. Do we need a smart ass attitude? Is there yet another way to express our talents, experience and knowledge? Are we teenagers? Respecting the person behind the words can be done!
