I finally subscribed to LR - primarily for its bulk crop and adjust commands (a big timesaver for burst shots of birds). Here's what I want to do - tell me if it is possible and how:
I load all my pictures on my desktop Mac. What I would like to do is edit them on my laptop sometimes - rather than be stuck at the desktop for hours I would like to sit downstairs watching TV with my wife. I would like to edit the picts on my laptop and have the final edit automatically reside on the desktop. Is this possible?
By way of background, after much fussing around I thought I had the LR Mobile working - I would synch the photos on the desktop and they would show up on the laptop. But then I get error messages - "only one catalog allowed to synch" on both, and "can't edit the photo because can't find the original" on the laptop. I had a major crash the other day on the desktop and had to go to a backup to get it to work at all and I suspect LR.
So is what I'm trying to do possible, and if so, how should I configure both the desktop and the laptop to accomplish this?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the link. The video is over an hour long - any idea about where it discusses this particular need?
Mike
You should be able to by mapping a drive on your desktop to you laptop. I do this between all the systems I have running at home. 2 use Windows, 2 use Fedora Linux, a Dell laptop, and a 27" iMac. They all talk to one another quite nicely. This can be done through either hard wired and routers or wifi.

If I have posted an image to Facebook or emailed a copy to a friend, it is easy to access it and copy it to Lightroom CC. IF I haven’t posted or sent it, I get on my MacBook Pro and email a copy to myself. That email will show up on both my MacBook and on my iPad. I then go to my iPad, open the email and save the image to Photos or just copy it and paste it to Lightroom CC.
Yes, if you learn properly.
If you have Lightroom Classic CC on your desktop and Lightroom CC on your Laptop, you can by logging into your Adobe Creative Cloud account on CC, have everything synch to a collection in your desktop Classic.

Darn - that works except the LR CC doesn't have the batch edit tool. Maybe v.2.0.

Interesting - so get an external drive and then use the Mac OS to map the drive for the laptop. Thanks for the suggestion.

I viewed the entire video. It is good for those who want to know the basic differences between LR Classic and CC. At about the 13 minute mark it mentions the difference in how they use the cloud/synch data.

It will eventually as Adobe rolls out more feature sets in future upgrades.
I use and like LR Classic but from time to time use LR CC on my Mac to quickly upload to social networks
One simple way to do this is to put both your photo files and the LR Classic catalog on an external drive. Then whatever computer it is plugged into works with current files and the catalog. Depending on the computer, its ports and the drive, the theoretical slow down may not be noticeable.
I have two strips of velcro on the bottom of a drive and two more on my laptop.

Your license allows dual installation. Put LR *Classic* CC 2018 on both computers. Put your images and catalog files on a large, fast, USB 3 drive attached to your late model WiFi Router, if you have a router that enables that. Point both computers to the shared catalog and image resources. When you shut down on one computer, you may be able to start up on the other and access the same catalog and images. You should NOT attempt to access the same catalog from two computers at the same time, without one of the application installations being shut down.
Short of using the NEW Lightroom CC 2018, instead of Classic or the old version of LR CC 2015, I don't know another way.
Is your laptop monitor calibrated and profiled to match your desktop monitor? If not, I would use the laptop solely for cull editing, and do all color adjustments on a decent, properly calibrated and profiled desktop monitor.

Thanks! A succinct solution that sounds workable. I'll give it a try. It seems unfortunate that the "better" program LR Classic doesn't have the "better" ability to synch.
