My wife and I were looking for some evening opportunities and noticed this developing to the west over this Sierras. Had to rush in the car to get to a spot with a decent view. Considering the DR of the scene, from my perspective, the only option was HDR. This is a merge of 4 exposures, one stop increments. The light in the lower clouds was fleeting and this represents the only image with color in the lower clouds. To me, the image is a little soft. Most likely operator error and I had the IS on with my Canon 24/105 IS II. I have been told IS needs to be off with this lens on a tripod. Taken with a Canon 5DIV.
Hope you enjoy!
I like the shot. Know the area well.
Fantastic light. Very nice!
Wow! Stunning image, enjoying was easy!
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. Did you stay in Bridgeport or someplace else? And yes, you should turn off VR, IS or whatever they call it, when the lens is on a tripod.

We were in our motor home. Stayed in a RV park on the reserviour. We have been wandering along 395 for the past three weeks. Not much of a landscape guy, but along 395 always some good opportunities. I am usually a bird shooter and Canon's newer long lenses are designed to allow IS to stay on, especially when on a gimbal head. The 24/105 IS II is relatively new to me and apparently definitely IS needs to be off when mounted for still subjects on a tripod. I need to remember that! Thanks for the look and comment.quote=rgrenaderphoto]Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. Did you stay in Bridgeport or someplace else? Breathtaking scene, masterfully captured.
That is a beautiful image really well captured.

Once or twice a year, I am in the Owens Valley, which is a Landscaper's paradise. In September there is a photographic workshop at Bodie, which allows you access from closing to as late as you want to stay. Nighttime shots of the buildings and Milky Way are amazing. When in Bridgeport, I stay at the Walker River Lodge, the first motel you see entering the town from the south.
Enjoy your trip. Where have you been staying?

RV parks exclusively: Lone Pine, Panament Springs, Bishop, Lee Vining, Bridgeport, Dayton (Nevada) and now Reno. Lone Pine is nice with Alabama Hills and Cerro Gordo. My wife, just beginning serious photography, took two days of private lessons from Denise Ippolito while we were staying in Lone Pine. Had a lot of fun in Alabama Hills. Also the road to Lundy Lake north of Lee Vining off 395 has some great Aspens and a reflection pond that has some great opportunities. We are in Reno for work and will be returning to S. Cal via Las Vegas to see Joe Walsh at the House of Blues. We will be doing 395 again either on our way or returning from Montana this summer. If you have other suggestions along the route would love to here about them.
