It might help to crop some off the top. What do you think looking at it again?

Don,
This is a magnificent, supremely impactful image, with incomparable contrast of the geologic mass of great age and endurance in the face of evidence of relentless weathering, and the relative fragile delicacy of the none-the-less ruggedly in-your-face thriving little puffin.
A truly memorable image constructed with thoughtful violation of just about every tenet of composition that might come to mind!
Your composition calls to mind the almost indefineable character embodied in the Japanese word “shibumi” which I have come to perceive as the concept of restrained (if not subliminally constrained) elegance of profound simplicity of juxtaposition of two strongly contrasting elements.
The impact of this image, to me, is as that of the single”Boom” of the finale of a fireworks display as felt in the chest when that tiny puffin reached my consciousness.
With great admiration of your eye and vision,
Dave

Help what? If you find a fault with the composition why not just say so?

Thank you, Dave. I think I'll print off this critique and frame it beside the picture.

Thanks Edie. Sometimes you just have to violate every 'rule' of composition.

I am sorry. I didn't mean to offend. You are good at what you do and it is a lovely photo and so proposed a crop. Please note my last sentence "what do you think"? It is your photo and it is in "FYC" hence my response.

Don
Be my guest; It’s a masterpiece!
If you have a good agent, or are represented by a good gallery, I likely could not afford the size print I’d like, but I could sure put it on my Christmas List !

Heather,
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound offended. I am interested in your opinion. If you think a crop off the top would improve the image I am interested to learn why you think that. I posted it here in the Critique Section because I think it is finished and as good as I can get it. If I'm wrong I certainly want to know. (This is the Critique Section, not FYC) I did post this in FYC some months ago and got little response, and no negative response or suggestions for improvement. "What do I think?" Well, I think its finished but I've been wrong before.
