I've overheard quite a few people at the malls saying "Happy Remembrance Day".
Just like Merry Christmas, Happy Easter, Happy New Years....
We've just finished our service yesterday, and the mood was solemn, no laughter.
I really don't know any way to greet people on this poignant occasion, but I feel the word "Happy" shouldn't be in the same sentence.
Or am I becoming too picky?
This may be one of those times it's hard to come up with an appropriate greeting, as greetings are culturally supposed to be up-beat. Hard to come up with an up-beat remembrance for those affected by such traumatic conflict as war...
I am a Vietnam Veteran; in my community (Bristol, Ct.) we say Happy Veterans Day. Other than the time we spend at events commemorating the purpose of the day we are happy to commiserate with fellow veterans, family and friends. I feel we have earned the right to exercise a few pleasantries in life. There is never a day I don't remember my fallen friends, family and those still suffering.
a simple "thanx" works wonders.
