The names of 11, 242 missing Canadian soldiers of World War One are engraved on this magnificent memorial atop the ridge in Vimy, France.
The French had tried to take the ridge and failed. Later, the British attempted to take the ridge and also failed. The four Canadian Battalions, fighting together for the first time ever, fought for and eventually took the ridge from the defending Germans over a three day battle over the Easter weekend, April 9-11th, 2017.
The 200 acres surrounding the ridge was granted to Canada in perpetuity by the grateful French government and people as a lasting monument.
It's Canada's primary overseas war memorial and was therefore the site of our Remembrance Day services yesterday.

The date is a bit off
That's quite a memorial. I hope taking that ridge was worth the lives.
