I just ordered a used Nikon AF Nikkor 85mm f/1.8D lens from B&H. This lens is out of production, which is why I had to buy it used. The B&H condition rating is 9.
This will be my fourth AF D lens along with my 24mm, 35mm & 50mm AF D lenses.
It will be delivered on Thursday. Unfortunately UPS usually delivers late in the day around where I live so I will have to wait until Friday to try it out.

That lens should do you well. An 85mm f 1.8 will be a good portrait lens. Enjoy.

The "D" lenses were a big step forward for balanced flash.

Have fun with the new member to your family of lenses.

I owned a copy of that lens and found it to be quite good. I must admit that I prefer the new 1.4 version, but I can't say anything bad about the 1.8D. I also have had/have several D lenses. I find my 105/2.8D Micro and 180 2.8D to be absolutely superior lenses as two examples and there are more great lenses in that series. Best of luck.

It would be so much more informative if you posted pictures taken with this lens, than just announced that you had ordered it and were waiting for it to arrive.

I have one; it's a good lens. Be careful shooting wide open unless you like sharp eyes and fuzzy ears.

The 'D' lenses had straight-cut blades and produce nice stars around points of light. This is not much of an image, except it gives good example of the point I make. This was taken with the 85mm lens you are waiting for.

Thanks for the tip Bruce. Those stars around the lights are sensational.

We own the lens and have had some pretty good results with it. Here, shot on a crop sensor D300 at f/3.5 with a little off camera bounced flash
