Remote shutter release

I recently acquired a Vello Freewave wireless remote shutter release (RW-C2) for use with my 7-yr old Panasonic Lumix G2. The compatibility is stated in the supporting documentation. Everything seems to work as advertised - except the shutter does not release(!)

My thoughts: Either the claim of compatibility is false or the camera is either not properly set or is at fault (how?)

Any experience and fix out there? Have I missed something?

My sense is that it is the claim of compatibility is false. I had that experience with Vello on another brand camera. I would return it. I did and bought the camera brand wireless remote shutter release with no problem. Yes, I did pay more but it works.

Thanks northsidejoe. Good thought, but I'm afraid it didn't do the trick.

It looks like I had better try the Pixel Oppilas RW-221/L1 Wireless Shutter Release Remote Control for Panasonic, the dedicated item, as suggested by PixelStan77.

I missed that one when I was first searching.

Thanks to you both

I've used various wireless and wired remotes. If this one doesn't work, return it and try another. This is the only one listed on Amazon.

Kaskazi, A little history. I used a remote whenever I could and for the last 12 months or so I never used it (I have both a wire and wireless). After trying everything I decided to read the manual and realized I had a setting wrong (Canon bodies). Made the correction to the settings and now they both work just fine.

Not sure as to your exact problem because I do not have your camera. But with my D750 I cannot set the camera to remote but I have to use it as a regular shutter. Just install it and press. It must be in the right slot also.

I learned a long time ago to avoid third party accessories. Maybe you pay more but "stuff" works. Not talking about lenses here, just accessories.

I have used several of these things including Vello. They all come with a small cable to plug between the receiver and the camera. That cable is key. If you get the wrong cable, it won't work. They could have shipped the wrong cable--that happened to me with an Oppilas. With the Vello, when I changed cameras, I just ordered the right cable for my Sony. It worked immediately.

A couple of things come to mind. First is batteries - my first Freewave came with weak batteries. (Check the lights at the front of the receiver.) The power switch must be pressed for about three seconds to activate the receiver. Second, if you have connected the receiver into the correct socket on the body and and press the LARGE button at the top of the receiver, does the shutter release? If it does, then you have proven that the unit is compatible. I don't know about your Lumix, but on my Nikon, there are NO adjustment to be made on the body for taking stills, just plug it in, turn it on and shoot. Note also, that there is a battery in the transmitter. With a good battery, you will see green and red indicators when the trigger is pressed.

I have a Panasonic DMC FZ200 and I purchased the Pixel brand Oppilas Wireless Shutter Remote Control for it. It works fine. Have not had any problems with it.
