Although my real wide-screen LCD TV is down here (32") I also have another wide-screen TUBE TV upstairs ... that one's only 26"And, of course ... all my current Computer Monitors are also wide-screen ... 3 are 22", one is 24" ... the other is 16" ....They all provide 16:9 ....

I guess my 12:7 becomes 16:9 when I measure more closely But is that really wide-screen? or is it now just standard? I shall have to have another look in the stores.
As to room - we returned from Spain 18 months ago and are still living on our boat in Boston Lincs. with our two cocker Spaniels - and our 28". So until we disembark to the bungalow we are half way through purchasing - we don't have room. However - I think we will still stick to 16:9.
Hope your holiday season is going well.

Oh right .... Thanksgiving's on Thursday ... do you do that, there, Del?

Must be fun living on a boat, huh? ... Especially with two dogs!!! .... Ouch!!!

So what you have, then - IS a wide-screen ... using 16:9 ... and NOT 12:7?

In a word - yes - but I'm sure I have seen wider screens somewhere. I shall look in Currys today.
We don't do Thanksgiving - although the turkeys give thanks! but we have adopted the colonial style Halloween in a big way! And Black Friday is now firmly established.
Cruising the coasts of Europe in the summer is good fun - but a North Sea marina in Winter is anything but!
Del.

Hi again Chris
All TVs in Currys are 16:9 - all lap tops are 16:9. They advise that this is now the standard - but there is a 21:9 TV option.
BTW - not sure how long you have been over the pond, but Currys are now combined with PCWorld. They make a formidable
combination of domestic electrical, computers, audio, TV, Cell phones and photographic goodies.

There you are, see?

21:9 ??? .... whoa!! .... where'd that one come from?

Birth to 10 ... then - 18 to 23 ... then again- at 25 ... for a fortnight .... long enough to see it wasn't gonna work - like before ...

I wonder why they did that, Del? ... The bicycles shop (isn't that what they were first?) with PC World ... in order to get PCs on the sly, huh?

How far do they cut, Del - percentage-wise?

Cannot say definitively. They do offers when they want to move things.

Okay, all you square-format shooters ... this, clearly, isn't one for you ... so, you can skip it ... unless, you have some really positive remark!

I haven't gone through the posts to read all the replies, so excuse me if I'm repeating what has been said.

It all depends on what I'm shooting, but I typically do landscape. It looks much better on my 16:9 tv screen when I'm displaying the photos. Having said that, I would use portrait depending on the composition. For instance, most wildlife shots are landscape. But there are shots I take in portrait position if I have something tall or thin that I want in the photo. Almost all head shots are portrait. But if it is a group of people, typically landscape works better to get everyone in the photo.

that's my 2 cents....

Thanks for your two cents, Photon ....

Yes, I suppose that's how most of us shoot ... but, there are some interesting alternatives posted here .... vertical landscapes, for instance ... look at Karno's stuff!
