Per the Wikipedia article on Li ion batteries there is more than one chemistry and more than one build. This is why the detailed particulars are so very important. As the report used the word "explosion," is this a reason that the battery was an old design in which Li metal was one of the electrodes. Explosion would then make sense.
Remember those Samsung Smartphones that were recalled because of defective batteries blowing up and catching fire. It wasn't that long ago. Samsung lost lots of money on that mishap.
I don’t know and with lithium ion, catastrophic failure is possible on any. But there has been many cameras destroyed by knock offs due to lack of quality control. I my self will always buy OEM. That is me.
