Would like to replace Adobe & LR but would like your appraisal of these two alternates. That you.

I've been using Luminar for about 6 months (note: I never used LR but have watched some Youtube videos on it) and I am very pleased with it. Its seems very similar to LR in the way it operates with sliders for various filters. Luminar come with a bunch of free presets plus all of their filters have a handy little blurb with before/after picture about what the filter was designed for. The only thing I know it lacks is the organizing feature that LR has but Luminar is supposed to releasing that upgrade next year in an effort to combat LR head on. There are plenty of Youtube videos out there which will demonstrate what the product can do. Hope this helps.

I’m looking at the 2018 version of Luminar coming out in a few days, and I like what I see.

Waiting to receive the Windows version next week. We'll see where it goes. For certain I'm headed away from LR 6 and not to the subscription model.

Agreed. Here, when it's time to upgrade my LR, it isn't going to be with an Adobe product. Any input would be appreciated.

I doubt you will find many members who have extensive experience with both programs. I had never heard of Picktorial, but there are lots of articles about both programs available here.

I have had Luminar and Aurora for about 3 months. I have more experience using Aurora than Luminar, but like it so far. I am on the Adobe CC subscription plan and am evaluating dropping it this year. I don't mind the monthly cost of the plan, but the latest LR/PS upgrade has resulted in many users having problems with am updated slower LR. Also, the renaming of the standard LR to "Classic" makes me wonder how long that program will be supported (like the standalone LR program).

If I was starting out now, I wouldn't go the Adobe route.

I have been entertaining the idea of buying Luminar for Windows, which is the OS I use. I have seen many videos about Luminar and it seems to be a very capable and useful software to edit images. I am not quitting Photoshop, I keep on believing it is the gold standard when it comes to editing files.
I have used Topaz Adjust 5 for several years and it is a very good editing software but Luminar can do what Adjust cannot. I seldom use Nik software now although I like its Silver Effex, not that I am doing that badly with Topaz B&W Effect 2.

IMHO, the BEST replacement for Lightroom is Lightroom Classic!

Will the Classic be around like the promised stand alone LR?

Not sure what OS you are using, but if you are using a PC, then Picktorial won't work for you as it is only available for Mac's according to their website - here is the link if you need it, https://www.picktorial.com/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIz7vK8KW31wIVmYizCh2dLQFZEAAYASAAEgJQwfD_BwE . If you are using a Mac, then it sounds like it may be a pretty decent option according to the features listed on their website. I never heard of Picktorial before as I use a PC and this post was the first time I heard of it. I have been using Macphun Aurora for HDR and am pretty happy with it, and am waiting for Luminar to be released for the PC to try it out.

Does Luminar come with their best noise reduction application "Noiseless"? From what I understand it does not you have to buy a separate application and its only for MAC machines and not PC based machines. If and when they can incorporate "Noiseless" they will have a pretty darn good application.

It does have denoise capability. Don't know if its as capable as the Noiseless standalone option. And, yes, Luminar does run on Windows.

Larry, according to their website, Noiseless is only available for Mac's, not PC's, and you are correct, you do have to buy it. Also, according to the "Compare Products" of Luminar 2017 and Luminar 2018, the new version has a new and improved noise reduction in both the Mac and PC versions.

Please show me where it was promised that the stand alone Lightroom was promised to be around forever. Simply, it was never said. One may utilize Lr 6 forever, however it is coming to the end of its life cycle and will not be updated. I don't recall Adobe saying that they would keep Lr 6 updated ad nauseum. I don't recall any other software by any company in that category. Adobe has shown for quite some time that their model, moving forward, was software rental. Lr Classic/ Photoshop continues to be offered at a great price and also continues to be the leading software. Adobe is making lots of money with their model, but not overcharging IMHO, and they are entitled to do that. Those who no longer wish to partake of the plan are free to switch. I will continue to be a customer, and one that appreciates what I am getting for my money -- less than a roll of film! Best of luck.
