Probably best selling price will be found on eBay. It takes: Good images, Good description, provenance, honest evaluation of condition. Try to get an accurate estimate of shipping costs and state them or include them in your offer. Then, when you get an offer, research the buyer's ratings before accepting and shipping. Use PayPal in spite of the PayPal commission since there are guarantees.

I have almost decided to spring for a D850. I would trade my D800 in. My question which of the "Big Three or other" camera stores is likely to offer the highest trade in value? I have spent more money over the past years at one of the two biggies, if that may be reason to chose it. shutter count is 3956! I use my D750 more.

I made an inquiry at a large camera dealer/store about a trade in and was told the following. We pay 70% of the current resale market for trade ins. Others had a similar percentage.

I gather if you want to buy the D850 you are a photographer who wants to do sports shooting, astrophotography, or time-lapse stuff. I have the D810 and am not going to buy the 1st Generation D850. I don't do any of these things, besides I can do astrophotography with the camera I have now and my Nikon 20mm F/1.8. If you are not going to do the things I mentioned, just want the newest and greatest (of course that circle is never going to change given all the upgrades that come out) or have money to burn. And if money is the case I would do it right and go with the Nikon D5 or go Leica SL. People often buy newer cameras to get the latest and greatest when it is really all about lens quality!

What they say and what they do are two different things. I was told this by one of their buyers when I wanted to trade my A6000 for a refurbished Nikon D7200. My trade in included two lenses. I checked out what the equipment was selling for on their site, calculated what 70% was and thought that is what I would get. I got much less than that in trade even after negotiating a higher trade in amount for equipment that they considered in mint condition. They stated that they had many used A6000’s in stock so the price they could give me had to be reduced. My only beef is that is not what they led me to believe at the onset when I was buying the D7200. Realistically, you would be better off selling it through this site’s classified section.

This is exactly what Adorama told me ... That they had many in inventory so they could not give me the 70%. Their offer was under 50%. I did notice that even though they had so many in inventory, they had not reduced their selling price.

After a few bad experiences, I will never buy anything from eBay. Their customer service is pathetic, and they pretty much don't care about buyers.

Assuming "big three" means Amazon, B&H, and Adorama, don't fail to try my friends at Cameta.

Or hold on to the D800 for a second body. Or better yet sell it on Ebay. I've also done well on Craigslist.

Complete BS. I've heard rumours that the D850 can also be used for landscapes, portraits, macro, 4K video, wildlife and birds in flight, product photography, aerial, architectural, documentary, street, fashion, forensics, concerts, festivals, photojournalism, food, candids of the family, weddings, and events, and can even do those in completely silent electronic shutter mode. But I could be wrong.

EDIT: Did I mention it can shoot DX format 8.5 MP at 30 frames per second?

My question is, if your not using your D800, why would you want a D850?

For the trade-in value....
