Visiting my Home Town, Chicago for Thanksgiving. I have a Nikon 5300 that really serves me well. I only want to take one lens with me on this trip. (Well, I probably will take my 35mm 1.8 with me that can fit in my pocket)
Most of my shots will be of Chicago skyline, buildings, lake front stuff. And obviously portraits of friends and family at dinner.
I do have a Nikon Nikkor 18-70mm F/3.5-4.5 G Aspherical ED IF DX lens, that I could use. But for the closeup shots, I would need at least 100mm in the zoom. So, should I be looking at a 18-105, 18-140?
The lens will obviously get a lot of use at home too as I walk around Atlanta.
Thanks for comments and suggestions.
The 18-105 and 18-140 DX lenses are both nice, with the longer one giving more reach that you seem to be looking for.

Okay, if you pull the 35mm from your pocket, where do you put the lens you are replacing it with?
I have a D7100 and my two walkarounds are the 35mm f/1.8 and the 18-140. The 18-140 isn't a lightweight however.

I use the 18-300 on a D500 or D7200. A bit heavy, but I like the extra reach.

I would vote for the 18-200. I have it and it is a great lens. Sharp, great contrast and easy to use.
A Nikon 24-120 f/4 would be great.

You do realize that the OP has a DX camera? I mean, I like the 24-120 on my DX camera for events, but it's really not wide enough to qualify as a walk-around lens where you want to shoot landscapse.

It wasn't mentioned in the request, costs 4x more, but who cares about details ...
I have a 18-140 for sale as I moving to full frame. Shot me a PM if you are interested.
