Well once again last night I had to reset 9 clocks. I for the life of me can't understand why some people just can't seem to grasp the concept of 'winter & summer hours'! Why can't we just stay on daylight savings time and the children, farmers and general workers go to school and work an hour later, or earlier depending on the season? It's a relatively simple concept to me.

Right! There is no reason for this - as if there ever was a valid reason. I still say that this must generate money for someone, or we would have stopped it a long time ago.
Years ago, I was driving through the mid-west during this weekend, and the same state had different times. The man on the radio said it was 8:00 o'clock, and an hour later, another man said it was 8:00 o'clock.
No change in time in Arizona......but they do change it on reservations. Go figure!?!

You are right on with that comment. Most farm/ranch kids dislike daylight savings. They work by the sun and by the time the sun sets, they eat, shower, it is late and time to go to bed. No time for a social life that city kids get since they are not regulated by the sun. Just one's musing who has lived in the rural areas and listened to the people.

I was raised on a ranch time has nothing to to do with it. You go out when yoou can see and stop work when you can't.
The reason behind Daylight savings had absolutely nothing to do with farming. The purpose was to save energy in aid of increasing productivity during the First World War.

That is true to a degree. You ever do chores or milk in the dark .

Daylight Savings
Ben Franklin
This event has given rise in my mind to several serious and important reflections. I considered that if I had not been awakened so early in the morning, I should have slept six hours longer by the light of the sun, and in exchange have lived six hours the following night by candlelight; and the latter being a much more expensive light than the former, my love of economy induced me to muster up what little arithmetic I was master of, and to make some calculations, which I shall give you, after observing that utility is, in my opinion, the test of value in matters of invention, and that a discovery which can be applied to no use, or is not good for something, is good for nothing.
This was a satirical letter that Franklin published but didn't really have anything to do with DST, per se.
DST was originally proposed by a New Zealander named George Hudson so he would have more time to collect bugs since he worked a night shift when the bugs weren't out and about.
The first real usage of DST as a means to save energy was initiated by the Germans and the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1916.
