REAL GLASS LCD Protectors ... any good?

Two or three companies make these things, now. They're all custom cut to fit various DSLRs. Some slide over the existing glass in a plastic frame. Others, with an almost non-existent frame, stick right over the glass. Still, a third company makes a frameless glass, which just sticks on over the existent LCD. You have to be careful with this one, because, unlike the other two - which have positioners, this last type lacks anything like that, so you just have to eyeball it. So, you'd better get it right, 1st time!

Here's the question. Do any of these make sense? ... I mean, aren't ALL LCDs, now, supposed to be scratch-proof, mark-less, smudge-proof and smear-proof ... or no?

Yep, I have the Vello that slides over the eye cup and the LCD screen on my 5D MKII & 7D MKII. Can't put one on my 80D due to the articulating screen.

7D Mk. II, Michael ... doesn't that have an articulating screen, just like the 80D? ... Or, am I just thinking - Touch-Screen?

Any dig cam with a flip screen, though, already protects the glass, when it's closed ... so, it's really not needed, I guess ....

Unfortunately no, the 7D MKII doesn't have an articulating screen, and personally I wish they all did. And you are correct, on my 80D the screen is always closed except when I'm reviewing an image. I rarely use live.

But, it does have Touch, though, right, Michael (the 7D Mk. II) .... ???

Yes, I wish they all had articulating screens, now, too ... about half of mine, do ... but only one Canon, and one Nikon - have touch, too ... both, with the flip-screens.

What about the menus, though? ... You need to open it to access them, don't you?

And, then, there's movies ... oh, er ... yes - mustn't forget this, too ... Selfies!!!!!

They would not work with touch screen LCDs, which is the trend for newer cameras.

I just use a clear, peel off type film protective, for my LCD screens. They work on my smartphone screen as well. You just cut the size you need with scissors. Apply and press out the air bubbles. Done.

I got these for a D750, A6000, and GoPro. No complaints. Each set came in a little wooden box - rather unusual.

Never thought about that, Jesu ...

Yes, I suppose you're right ...

Both of the Touch-Screen models I have (T4i / D5500) also have flip-screens ... so, there's no need to add them on these ....

I dunno, tho', Jesu ... the glass protector I've applied to the D7100 - is very, very, thin ...

Are you SURE touch sensitivity wouldn't work on such glass?

I've tried a bunch of those, Mas ... but most of 'em ever look right ....

Wind up taking them all off again, in disgust ...

The only one I ever did that to (and, left) is the T3 ... but that one was already custom cut ... a special from Amazon ...

Even with that, I still wound up with a gash in the middle, at the bottom ... looks like a cut in the glass, but it isn't ...

So, with both my Nikon Prosumers, I bought those special glass panels ... on the D3200 ... I have a neat drop-down metal mirror gadget ...

Glass protecters work on touch screen cell phones, why wouldnt they work on the cameras?
Was told that now touch screens use heat from your fingers, some of the old ones used touch, dont think they make many of those now for cell phones, anyway.

Ya got me, Krash!

Maybe, he thinks the glass LCD screen-protectors are heat-resistant ....

I used the Giottos Aegis Professional M-C Schott Glass LCD Screen Protector on my Canon 7D Mark II. Very pricey. The first one cracked in a corner after a few weeks. The second one cracked in a different corner around a month or two later. I tried a Velo unit which was big and bulky covered the edge of the LCD so it was no longer a 100% view, and the viewfinder portion moved my eye farther away from the viewfinder making it difficult to control features on the bottom and left. Tossed it for the inexpensive plastic Kenko which fits perfectly and doesn't draw attention to itself. I could have saved $100 if I had tried the Kenko first.
