Looking for a good 50mm Prime Lens for my D750... any suggestions or recommendations as to which one?

Thanks,
Joe

Any new 50 mm Nikon lens will be a good one. Here are links to a few that I can recommend.

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/766516-USA/Nikon_2199_AF_S_Nikkor_50mm_f_1_8G.html
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/585343-USA/Nikon_2180_AF_S_Nikkor_50mm_f_1_4G.html
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/247091-USA/Nikon_2137_Normal_AF_Nikkor_50mm.html
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/97413-GREY/Nikon_1902_AF_Nikkor_50mm_f_1_4D.html

And some of those are also available as refurbished and that is even better, because they are cheaper but otherwise the same quality as new.

Nikon also has some manual focus variants, they are excellent lenses but my guess is you need autofocus so I am not linking to them here.

A 50mm prime lens was a standard lens on 35mm SLR film cameras decades ago. It was the only lens to many. It will be perfect on a full frame camera, such as the Nikon D750. Or, if you do a lot of portraits, maybe an 85mm prime.

That thinking has changed. Now people are saying that a standard lens should be more like
43mm, length of the sensor’s diagonal.

Or a 28-80 zoom lens

I purchased the Nikon 50mm 1.8g for my D750 as it was what I thought to be an inexpensive bargain. I used it maybe twice before it was relegated to long term storage. It was just too soft to suit me no matter what aperture was selected. I found a good deal on the Sigma 50mm 1.4 ART. It is now one of my favorite selections. It has replaced my Nikon 85mm 1.8g as the sharpest lens in my collection (even at f/1.4).

I have the Nikon 50 mm 1.8 G also and use it on my D600. Perfectly sharp it is at all apertures. I wonder if you had a bad luck with your copy or if you need to fine tune your camera aginst it.

Funny, I use my 50mm 1.8 on my D3400, a crop-sensor camera and love it, although to be get the same field of view I am used to with my film camera's 50 mm I need to stand back further. On my recent trip to Europe, it was not wide enough, nor was the 18-55 mm kit lens, since I had a 28 mm on my film camera, I expected the 18 would be wide enough. The kit lens worked very nicely though. Whenever I was in a low light situation and could stand back enough, the 50 mm 1.8 worked just great!

I have the Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D and the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G that I use on my Nikon Df and both are sharp.

I tried fine tuning. It was still soft compared to my other lenses. Perhaps it was a bad copy. Perhaps I wanted too much from the lens.

After I bought and tested the Sigma I found a new home for the Nikon. The new owner was happy to have it at half of what I paid for it new.

That has to be a record number of posts on uhh. 18 total. I did two in a row by accident, my keyboard froze, and I apologized for the third post.
