The title of the post should have been hole in one. I do not know how that happened.

AND You probably thought I was talking golf. Sorry to disappoint you. But if you try this it is guaranteed you will love it. It is the best breakfast ever.
What you will need.
A fry pan.
One slide of bread buttered
one glass or a round cookie cutter
One egg
Salt and pepper

Procedure: Heat the fry pan then add the bread to be toasted. You have already cut the hole in the middle with a glass or the cookie cutter. Break the egg and place it in the bread and discard the egg shell. Cook the egg and toast on one side and when done turn over and cook on the other side until golden brown. Sprinkle salt and pepper on the egg before toasting. Enjoy. Let me know how you like it. Also while you are at it be sure and toast the round circle of bread.

Not golf, snake.
(Ribbit would have been closer for a toad in the hole. )

My mother made these when I was a kid; she called it 'egg in the nest'. Oh that was good. Think I'll make one right now.

Interesting.
In the 40s my mom called the exact same thing 'Egg in bread'. That was north of Chicago.
It is delicious for being so simple.
Thanks for the memories.

First of all "SSSS" is an organization to which I belong. "The Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality." So what is this doing in a photo forum?

Toad in a hole. I continue to do this. It is especially good with rye bread., but not bad with white.

My Dad made them 73+ years ago (I'm 80). They were called Gashouse Eggs. I still make them. Now, I only use black seeded Jewish Rye. Best hole "maker" is a shot glass or if you have one, an old Welch's Jelly glass (small jar) or Old English Cheddar Cheese jar. I love them, loaded with pepper and some salt. My daughters loved them too.
They called them "Bread Eggs". Occasionally, some ketchup. Yummy. Maybe I'll make them for breakfast today.

I didn't even know you could buy drink glasses. I thought they just came with Jelly in them! Then when I was raising my kids, new tech was the jelly and peanut butter were mixed, right there in the Welch's jelly glass.
