Yes, forget back button focus and just press the shutter release 1/2 way down. That works remarkably well.

Good video, but I'm surprised he doesn't tell you how to take a picture if the auto focus hasn't achieved good focus. That's the first setting I change when I get a new camera.

I don't know of an easy way to switch back and forth from BBF to shutter button focus.

Try Steve Perry’s Video on BBF and auto Focus:

You can program either U1 or U2 with or without BBF. On my D7000, I have my D1 programmed with P Mode and BBF. My U2 is programmed with P Mode, BBF, and Auto-ISO to shoot indoors like in museums without flash.

I wasn't sure if the D7000 has U1 and U2.

Because BBF requires changing some settings in the camera's menu, the only way to go back to focus using the shutter button is to change those back to the original settings. I use BBF exclusively, love it, and don't fully understand why someone would want to go back!

Exactly, less fingers to keep track of and concentrate on the photographic subject.

Back button focusing is very easy to setup on the D7000. And (once you get used to it) I like it a lot better than pressing the shutter 1/2 way. With back button focusing I can focus then easily move the camera to a different pointing location with the focus subject still in the photo and shoot. (yes, I can do it with the shutter button half way too but it's easier with BBF. It is just 2 or 3 changes in the camera menu
