Can anyone recommend an online storage - either Flickr, SmugMug, etc. Also can you store RAW files on any of these web sites?

Do you mean file storage or some place to dispay pictures?
For 2gb free storage, I use dropbox - sign up free using my affiliate link (which gives m an extra 250MB):

http://db.tt/7WUL3dh

Or use Google Drive which give you 5GB free storage.

For photos - you could use Picasa web.

I don't have any storage except Carbonite. I have fa few pictures from UHH and of my own on my hard drive but they number less than ten. Everything else is on Carbonite, hundreds maybe thousands of pictures and files

What if Carbonite goes out of business, or bought out by someone who changes everything and you loose all your images. For me, I would NEVER use an online service for my only storage.

recently had this from Kodak

Dear valued Kodak Gallery member,

As you may be aware, earlier this year, Eastman Kodak filed for U.S. bankruptcy court protection in order to restructure the company for future growth. As part of that restructuring, we recently announced that we would cease operations of our Kodak Gallery US and Kodak Gallery Canada businesses on July 2, 2012, as a result of a sale of those assets. Sadly, today, we must also announce that in order to best enable future Kodak success, we will be ceasing all other remaining Kodak Gallery business worldwide as well, also effective July 2, 2012, 9pm CET/ 7pm GMT.

Due to Kodak Gallery's closing on July 2, 2012 it is urgent that you take the following actions to protect your photos and projects. Please take a moment to:

Download your Kodakgallery.co.uk photos or they will be lost
Complete any unfinished projects and purchase them
Purchase any extra copies of projects you've made previously, including photo books and calendars
Please note: If you use Kodak Easyshare software you will be able to download your photos until July 23, 2012, 9pm CET/ 7pm GMT. Click here to download Easyshare software.

After July 2, 2012, 9pm CET/ 7pm GMT, your current account on Kodakgallery.co.uk will be closed and any items in your shopping cart or projects in your account will be permanently deleted. You may continue to download your photos until July 23, 2012, 9pm CET/ 7pm GMT, but after that time, all remaining photos in your account will be deleted.

Kodak, the brand you love and trust, will remain open for business. Please visit Kodak.co.uk for a range of photo solutions and options to meet your ongoing needs.

We want to thank you for being a loyal Gallery customer. Please visit Kodakgallery.co.uk until July 2, 2012, 9pm CET/ 7pm GMT, to see special pricing for any final products you may want to order. For any additional questions, please visit our Help Center.

Sincerely,
Kodak Gallery Customer Service

I use SmugMug for online storage and gallery for my photos (http://izzykap.smugmug.com ). It's a good service and at a reasonable price (~ $60/year). It offers unlimited storage and ability to easily make a very nice web photo site for one's photos. One disadvantage is that it doesn't work with raw files and I think that back ups need to be manual, not automatic. There is a Lightroom plugin which allows direct transfer from Lightroom to SmugMug.
In addition, here is a link from a recent CNET posting comparing different online photo storage options:

Smugmug, hands down. It's also great for sharing with family members all thoughout the states (or world for that matter). I also backup to a networked hard drive at home.

I recently signed on with SmugMug, their basic service for $40/year. When I start doing videos, I plan to upgrade to their next level at $60/year.

SmugMug does offer storage for RAW files. They call it SmugVault. You can store other non-photo files there too, such as Word files. SmugVault storage is on Amazon servers, and Amazon bills you directly. My June Amazon bill was $1.01. (For some Word files I wanted on the cloud; I don't have any RAW files to back up. Not yet, anyway. BTW, before uploading such stuff, I did a bit of housekeeping. It's amazing how much junk was (and still is, grrrrr) hiding in dusty corners of my laptop, and how little I'd actually shed a tear about if it vanished forever into the ether.

I also back up to an external hard drive at home, using my Mac's Time Machine. I figure the odds of my hard drive at home failing irretrievably at the same time my cloud storage destroys my pics are pretty darn small.

Be glad to hear from anyone who thinks my photos are still at risk. This site is great -- so many bright and experienced minds for us newbies to pick!

Good to know that SmugMug has the add on SmugVault option available for raw and other file types.

I am considering Zenfolio, their unlimited pkg. is $60 per year. It is a sight for professionals and has been in business for years. It is supposed to have less advertisements than some others. Best wishes WLS

Zenfolio doesn't work with raw files based on a recent online chat with their tech support.

I too use Carbonite and am considering another such "off campus" site for redundancy. I also have two external hard drives in addition to the hard drive on my working pc. My next pc selection will include a array of hardrives for even greater redundancy. Keeping at least one hard drive in something like a bank safe deposit box would also seem prudent in case of a disaster that destroys all the stuff in your abode. Having backups done automatically is a big plus.

IF that were to happen, you still have a contract with Carbonite for a specified amount of time. The online storage business is highly competetive, so it's very unlikely that any new purchaser will make unreasonable demands.

I use it and feel very confident about the safety of my files. That having been said, I occasionally back up my photo files to a thumb drive. These drives now offer HUGE storage space. The combination of the two will essentially guarantee that my files are safe.
