Leaving November 13 for Santiago, Chile. Taking cruise down the coast of Chile, ending in Buenos Aires, returning December 2. Planning to take my Nikon D610. Would either of the above lenses make sense to take on the cruise? I don't have either. My current lenses:

AF-S Micro Nikkor 105mm 1:2.8 G ED
AF Nikkor 50mm 1:1.8
AF Nikkor 18-35 mm 1:3.5-4.5D ED

I plan to take landscape shots of glacier alley, street scenes, people. Can I get by with what I have or would the topic lens in question be a good complement, generally, to my current lenses.

Please, no snarky comments. Just simply asking for some feedback.

You can get by with what you have.

The 2 70-200 lens are great to have in your lens inventory but both are very heavy and costly. The E version is the best and also the most expensive. If you don't mind the weight or the expense...

I prefer to travel light.

On that FF body the 70-200 could come in handy, but probably not a must have. I think if I really wanted to add a lens with your upcoming trip, it would be the 24-70 F/2.8 E. But again, not necessary.

Enjoy your cruise!

Take the 18-35 and the 105, leave the 50 mm at home. The AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm would be ideal for landscapes and zoomed in detail. Bring a Monopod if you can for shipboard use.

Consider picking up the very versatile Nikon 28-300mm. Those of us who have it like it....both on our crop sensor cameras and on our full frame cameras for vacations and trips. I'm not saying not to take your other lenses, but when shooting on the run, this is a great lens. It also crops very well.

My Nikon 28-300 was soft and heavy. I dumped it.

Relative small, light, and not terribly expensive. Bring that and the 18-35mm, and you're all set.

The 70-200 would make a great addition and be very useful. If you don't already own any teleconverters you might want to look at the Tamron 70-200 G2, which is getting incredible reviews. You might also want to add a teleconverter of two for additional reach .

I have the Nikon 70-200 2.8E which is insane, so sharp and so fast on focus. I would have gone for the Tamron, which is about $1000 cheaper. but already have Nikon teleconverters and these are not compatible with Tamron lens.

Enjoy your trip.

A perfectly good walk around lens for you would be the 28-300.

I own a D610, and a Nikkor 24-70 AF 2.8. I also own a Nikkor 24-70 F4, which I generally use when I travel, and this is the lens I would recommend that you purchase or rent for your trip.

Try the 70-200 f4 - much lighter and you seldom need the larger arperture for landscape. I have the 2.8 and wish I had the f4.
