I will kick and scream when I am FORCED to switch to W10!

This. I switched to Macs about 5 years ago, but still have a couple of Windows boxes running different flavors of Win7 - one just as extra backup for various photo and music files, and one for an app that my wife uses almost daily and for which she does not want to learn how to run some Mac equivalent.
Macs have their own frustrations, but at least I can choose not to update my operating system RIGHT THIS MINUTE. If I were content to use ONLY Microsoft-brand software I might feel differently, but every OS update risks shutting down some third party software unless and until IT gets updated. And if you depended on that software to do something important to you, well, from Microsoft's standpoint, too bad.
I've said publicly that if I ever get to the point where I can't abide (or afford to upgrade) Mac software and/or hardware I'll learn to talk Linux and cast a pox on both their houses. But I think I'm too old to do that even if I wanted to, and so am counting on not living long enough to have to face that decision.

Many, many years ago (I won't admit HOW many), my school district went PC and I had to give up my Mac. The rest is history.

And the Mac OS is so easy to replace if you want to wipe the drive and reinstall.

Are you being serious or facetious? I've never had to do that on a Mac, but have to believe it would be easier than starting from an original Windows installation (file or disk) and then having to do all the updates. I can imagine that taking basically forEVer.
For me at least, Mac updates have all been trouble-free and cheap. They only do a major update every couple of years, and that cost me $20 the last time. Both of the last updates were free and trouble-free. The only problem I have had with the latest Mac update, is they installed a U2 album in my iTunes without asking. I got it removed, but I must admit this has me on my toes now. Once they start doing a bunch of things without asking me first, it could be the start of trouble.

I thought the “Free Update” period ran out last year???

I believe this "Free Update" extension is only for some people with specific disabilities. The link above describes it as being available "only to those who use assistive technology, such as screen readers, got an indefinite extension."

Thanks. That answers my question.
Thanks Jerry for the Info. I just in the last week upgraded to win 10 ver:1709 no issues so far and don't expect any either.
This computer came with Windows 8, so 10 was a real improvement. If I had had 7 maybe not so much. 10 restored some of what I missed in 7 on my old laptop.
Thanks,
I decided to upgrade my old computer to Win10. When I bought the new computer it had Win10 on it and I'm used to it now.
I have two desktops and a laptop with Windows 10 and I HATE this version. My other laptops with Vista and Win7 are much more user friendly.
