I took this picture of my grandaughter yesterday with my Canon powershot. I called her from the deck as she was getting out of the pool and tried to nail the focus on her right eye. Only PP was to crop

She is adorable. Your focus seems to be right behind her left ear. I am not a portrait photographer and maybe the MWAC will jump in with some of her expertise. I would take it into photoshop and sharpen the eyes up with highpass or an unsharpen mask.
Sharp or soft focus aside, this is a cute kid, and a good shot. A verticle shot would have captured more of the childs head. Sometimes we are limited by space, and get what we get.
Thank you both, I will try to sharpen in PS. I only had the P&S with me and that is more difficult to focus. It is also slower to capture the phote than my Rebel and I find either the subject or I move!
I like it as shot myself.
I really like this shot. I do feel that the crop is a little too severe on top,as my eye keeps looking up there expecting to see more, but I think that perhaps a soft white vignette would eliminate the need for my eye to wander away from the face. Great spur of the moment shot.
Here is my try at what I was talking about.
I see what you are saying, thanks!
