Nikkor 80-200 f3.5-4.5 AF-D Zoom Ring Problem

Before it gets sent to a repair outlet for evaluation, I wonder if any other Hogger has had a similar problem. The zoom ring frequently "catches" at the 80mm position and it will not rotate to zoom at all, but then will "unfreeze" and the ring will zoom after several attempts to rotate it.

I know it is a relatively inexpensive lens, but it was made in Japan, has decent build quality, is very sharp, and gets a decent review from Ken Rockwell.

Any help is appreciated.

Nikkor 80-200 f3.5-4.5 AF-D is a new one to me. Are you sure of that? Whatever lens it is, I would have a repair technician take a look at it.

Sorry about the confusion, it is an f4.5-5.6! I was also handling another lens with the 3.5-4.5 when I posted.

Are you sure it’s an 80~200 Nikkor?

Thanks. Not sure how much can be done. Hope it’s under warranty.

Yes, it is a very nice lens, and the cost of the repair could be greater than the cost of a replacement. Something like that is frustrating because it's so minor, yet it preventing a smooth zoom.
