Help with Canon Pro 100 sitting idle

I have a Canon Pro 100 that hasn’t been used for almost 2 years. Only test prints were used in the printer. My question is “Should I replace all the inks before using it again?”. Also is there anything I need to do to clean the print head nozzles?

I would just try to print something. Mine sat for 6 months, and it printed a photo with no problem. I never shut it down, just stays in standby mode
If it hasn't been used in a while, it will run a head cleaning cycle.

Give it a try - see what happens?

See if any nozzles are clogged?

Run the nozzle cleaning function if any are clogged?

Replace any ink carts that don't work?

Just a few WAGs

I agree - give it a try and see if it works. If it does not work, do not spend any money to fix it. A new one with (in my experience) a full set of ink is now $60 at B&H with a 50 pack of 13x19 Canon paper. (You get a $250 AMEX gift card when you send in the barcode from the box. All of the instructions are at B&H.) Good luck!

Thanks for the information. I'll see how it works.
Ironically, I just returned froma Tim Ernst workshop in Arkansas and he mentioned at one time he was just ordering new printers instead of buying ink because it was cheaper.

Thanks again.

Give it a try - with cheap paper - and see how it works. It might have to run through a cleaning cycle, but probably not.

Just checked, its $129 after a $250 mail in rebate. I have had bad experiences with Canon rebates.

And I have had nothing but good experiences with Canon. I bought my first Pro 100 from B&H for the "normal" discount of $129 with free shipping and no tax. It arrived dead on arrival so I called Canon support. A new one was sent out and it was fine. I got to keep the ink from the dead one and got new ink with the replacement. And Canon sent out a retail set of individual inks for my trouble. My experience was great.

If one creates a B&H Wishlist and puts the Pro 100 in it you will get an email when its price drops at B&H. $129 is the "normal" discounted price. The deal ends at the end of a month and magically reappears at the beginning of the next month. Sometimes at the beginning of a "deal" the price might be less than $129. I have seen $79.99 and two days ago it was $59.99. At either of those prices it is cheaper to buy the printer than a set of inks.

Ink purchased at Canon's web store almost always comes with free Canon paper. It is worth checking out if you like Canon paper.

If it was turned off - fire it up and run a test print or two. You may need to clean the heads. If it was left on, it will automatically do an operation that keeps the heads clean every so-many hours, and you might be out of one or more inks, at which point you are most likely going to have clogged/dried out heads and you will be better off buying a new unit. As has been pointed out several times, the price right now is way under $100 (after rebate) and really worth considering - even for a first time printer. Good luck!

I left mine idle for a year - unplugged. I fired it up recently and the pictures were great. Had to lighten them up as usual but other than that they were fine. Decent printer.
