Been working hard to improve my skills enough to post something in this section. Shot this last week. Originally had wanted this in color but soon found B&W was best at this location. Looking for comments.

The image has a nice story telling aspect- an interesting mood and the model is a lovely subject. As a portrait, however, it has some aesthetic issues. The lighting is somewhat uneven and has an unflattering affect on the bridge of the nose. The hand is overly lighted and is much brighter that the face and the hand and arm that are extended toward the camera appears longer and larger than normal. This disproportionate effect is caused by optical distortion. A modification of the pose, possibly the camera position and a longer focal length lens or zoom setting would have remedied this issue.

There are some highlights that have exceeded the dynamic range of you camera's system or have been "under-printed"- some of this can be compensated for in editing. There is a highlight on the hand that may be the result of over-sharpening.

If you care to furnish me with some exposure data, some information as to how you lighted this subject and the focal length of you lens, I can offer some more advice based on that information.

Thanks for posting. I really like the idea of this image.

I really like the mood it shows, wonder how it would be if eyes were open. The face looks a little soft and appears the focus may have been on the right hand rather than the eyes. The background grabs for my attention a bit but the model is very pretty. I suggest you pull the hair light so it is off her face and use a small reflector to get the effect you are going for. Nice job posing the hands. Most important is to have the client happy and you will be happy.

Thanks Ed for your comments. I agree with all your comments. I didn't have the right lights at this shoot. I knew it once I got their but to late to go back and get different modifiers. I didn't notice the hand and arm size till you mentioned it. Something I will have to remember in future shots.

In this case I was trying to please the Wine Shop. They did like the shot and posted it on Facebook. I knew I could have used a wider aperture to blur out more background but since it was for the Wine shop elected to show the items on the wall recognizable. I was going for a mood shot and after I saw it larger on the computer screen I wasn't happy and tried to save the shot with PP. A different modifier and reflector would have done wonders.
