I take pictures of birds: sometimes for identification purposes, sometimes to create beautiful pictures. When taking picts I will take 10-15 (or more ) of the same bird in the center of the view. I have then uploaded the pics into mac Photos, cropped them down to about the same size one-by-one (you can apply light/color edits one-by one using Copy/Paste).

So I asked a few people if Lightroom would allow me to batch edit - crop and adjust - and have it applied to the rest of them in the series. They said Lightroom could do that. So I signed up for the new Lightroom CC and tried it - and couldn't find a way. Adobe has about 6 tutorials for Lightroom CC and none of them cover this. You can do this on the new Lightroom Classic CC, so I downloaded that. So my question - is there a way to batch edit in the new Lightroom CC? If not, does that mean I have to use (the more complicated) Lightroom Classic and then synch back to Lightroom CC? Along those same lines can you recommend any series of Lightroom tutorials (I find Adobe's are more like product promotions than an instructional tool). Thanks.

It's dead simple to batch edit images in Lightroom.... In the develop module you select the batch of images you want to edit, then do your work on the first of them. Once you've got it where you want it, click the "Sync" button in the lower, right hand corner. This opens a dialog box that allows you to select which of the editing adjustments you want to apply to all the images. You can only apply one or several or all of the same edits.

Forget the online tutorials... those can be helpful to learn how to do some specific action, but aren't very comprehensive. Buy a book or two about Lightroom, such as Scott Kelby's. Much more detailed and thorough.

Thanks for the info. Perhaps a book would be better than trying to find a specific topic within a longer video.

I really like the way Laura Shoe does her videos in 5 to 15 minute topic based bites... For me it is good to actually see the steps being done too...

LR 6 is the stand alone, it was not part of the discussion, plus we all know Adobe short changed it on the features.

The versions under discussion are the NEW Lightroom CC (a web cloud based version just released) and Lightroom Classic (formerly Lightroom CC - now listed in "about" as ver 7.0.1) and the current Camera Raw is 10.0

Those were the versions under discussion and the article I posted is dated Oct 19, a whole 11 days old.

Then I have no frigging idea which Lightroom CC I'm running other than it is the most current: Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC Release 2015.10.1 Camera Raw 9.10.1 and it is full featured!

Actually with those release numbers it looks like you are one update behind.
I got mine as a pop up when I opened CC last week some people got them a few weeks ago.
When you get it just be careful to select the correct versions to download and install. Light Room has become Light Room Classic and the name Light Room CC is now the web/cloud based version designed for mobile devices (formerly Light Room Mobile) and set up to transfer things back and forth between them. It also stores your images in the cloud by default and you have to tell it to save them locally in preferences. It is a stripped down version with more stuff to be added later. The question is when?
I picked Photo Shop's update and LR Classic, I also updated Camera Raw but did not install Light Room CC. Now it keeps offering it to me and doesn't seem to take no for an answer very well. Adobe CC opens to the update page and when I click apps it opens to the page with all apps listed and download or trial buttons on all the apps I don't have. I have to click the "installed apps" tab to get only the ones I have/want/use. I keep worrying that I will be half asleep, sneeze as I click the mouse or something and download and install something I don't want.
Oh, they also announced that at the end of the year LR 6 (standalone) will no longer be upgraded etc. and there will not be a LR 7 stand alone. I have LR 6 on a laptop since before I "tried CC" two years ago. I wanted to be able to use/access all my pictures and edits in case I didn't keep CC since it changed LR 5's catalog format to LR 6's format and I was told you can't change back.

Yup, you're right. I am out-of-date on most of my CC releases. Apparently my CC Manager was disabled!? Thanks

I also notice there are three versions of Lightroom I can choose from; getting darned confusing!

That is not the most current. That would be Photoshop 2017.1.1 Version 19.0, and Lightroom Classic CC 2018 Version 7.01. Camera Raw is now version 9.12.1.790 on older systems and 10.x on newer systems.

(The older Lightroom CC 2015 is now Lightroom *Classic* CC 2018. The former Lightroom Mobile is now Lightroom CC 2018.)

If you are on a Mac, you have to be using specific versions of Mac OS and specific hardware to run the latest LR Classic CC. See Adobe's site for details.

You can do bulk edits in LR, but I'd be careful about doing this with cropping. The problem is that LR will crop all of them exactly alike. This would be fine if the birds all happen to be in exactly the same spot in the image for all of the images, but I doubt this would be the case. Actually, I'm talking about LR Classic - I have exactly no experience with the new LR CC but I doubt that this new product would be any better at guessing how you want to crop each image.

I have converted over to LR Classic and have done bulk edits - they get me 90% of where I want to go. If the bird was not in the center I can then quickly adjust the crop. Still a time-saver.
Mike

PS the New product doesn't do bulk edits.

I'll check them out. Found Adobe's J. Kost and they are quite good but still difficult to find the video that describes what I am specifically looking for.
