A question about a DxO option that has never worked for me?

I use DxO a lot and consider myself fairly proficient in it's use. However, I have never been able to make use of the "Focusing Distance" setting. It's always grayed out and unavailable to to me. I took this photo with a Minolta 135mm lens that is not supported by the DxO modules. I have also used more modern lenses that do provide Distance information. In both cases I'm unable to make use make use of this "Focus Distance" setting. I don't know what I'm doing wrong? Can someone please explain it to me? You will need to download the image to see the "Focusing Distance" option on the right side of the screen.

Thank you.

I've used DxO 9, 10, and 11 as my go to for four years and I know that if it's grayed out, that's the clue that it cannot be applied, so it kind of sounded like you already knew that. Elite

Yes, but why is it grayed out?! Is there something I can do to wake it up and use it?

I'm using DxO Optics Elite 11 and I can't find this "focusing distance" at all.

It's there. Tap on the little box to the right of "Essential Tools" scroll down the list and put a check next to it. I will then appear. I just don't know how it works? Thanks for looking.

Dave, I downloaded the "Trial" version of DxO Photolab and "focusing distance" is not grayed out. If you click on the ? it states that "it lets you specify the actual focus distance when it was recorded in the EXIF data with insufficient precision to ensure automatic corrections are accurate".

OMG, Now you have gone and done it. We are stuck in a "do loop" and can never escape! (Computer geek talk.)

You tapped on the little question mark. I also did that. But, did you try to enter a distance? Mine will not let me do that. If you download the image I provided, you will find the same text that you just quoted to me.

OMG, it's another form of a "do loop"! (see above comment)

Yes, I can enter a distance, at least the distances that are provided by the app

Thanks. I wonder what I'm doing different than you? By "app", do you mean DxO program?

The are not any numbers provided in my screen. I wonder if I could have something set wrong in my camera so that it's not sending any distance information, but then you would think it would let me enter the distance information

Yes, the DxO Photolab Program. I tried 2 different cameras, Sony a7II w/ Canon 24-105 lens & a Sony RX10III and the distance information was available for both camera/lens combinations.

Now that's interesting! I'm using a Sony A99II. You would think it would have that information if your Sony camera had it. I have tryed using modern "D" lenses and old Minolta (non-D) lenses. I do not have that option available. I have NEVER seen it come on for me. I have used several different Sony cameras. A100, A900, A77II, RX 100M2 and now my A99II. I must have something set wrong in DxO.

I didn't have to set anything. When I opened a photo, the program recognized the camera/lens combo and asked if I wanted to download the "profiles", although it characterized the Canon 24-105 as a Sigma lens. Are you using DxO Photolab? I downloaded the 30 day trial this morning...http://www.dxo.com/us/photography/photo-software/dxo-photolab

Yes, I have been using DxO since it first came out. I'm a big fan of it. I have two working versions on my computer, DxO OpticsPro 11, and the new and paid for copy of DxO PhotoLab. I just never gave this parameter a thought until this week. Do you find it useful?
